Oil on canvas, 15 1/4" by 18 1/2" (22" by 25" as frame), the subject a copper or ceramic tub filled with red flowers , all against a simple background. The painting is not signed on the front but on the reverse is "Yerda Werkel" and "von Kurtz" and "1.9.46". So we have likely a German, Swiss or Austrian artist who would have painted this soon after the end of the war. I don't see a listing for the artist but she was talented...

For the collector of contemporary art, this is an unusual mixed media work signed at lower right by MARGARET HEHMAN (known since 1985 as Margaret Hehman-Smith). The work (11 3/4" by 16 3/8", 20 1/2" by 25 1/4" as framed behind glass) is executed with ochre chalky paint over a thin highly polished aluminum sheet. The artist has a website, which shows that she grew up in Pennsylvania, and studied at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles in the mid 1970s, with some study in Europe as well...

A small unframed watercolor painting of an early adobe structure of Northern California, similar to the historical, rare structures that may be seen today around the plaza in Sonoma, 7" by 9 1/2", signed at lower right by listed artist JEAN G. WALFORD (1875-1938). Walford was born in England, but was in Berkeley by 1917. She ran an art gallery until her passing in 1938. The watercolor came from an old Bay Area collection.

This is a folky painting of someone's favorite St. Bernard dog, circa 1870's or 1880's (ONE OF TWO SUCH WORKS IN MY SHOP). A nicely executed good-sized pastel drawing, 19" by 23" (24" by 28" framed), the subject a fast-looking high-end sailboat off a coastline, manned by a number of figures. I would estimate the age as circa 1960's or 1970's. Framed behind detail-dulling non-glare glass, which was common during those years. Frame shows wear, drawing is in excellent condition. Beautifully executed by an unknown but obviously talented artist is this 10" by 8" oil on canvas of a seated woman draped in fabric, against a darker drape background. The work is contemporary.
