This is a wonderful vintage Japanese Raku style tea cup of Ohi ware with an amazing amber glaze which was made about 50-60 years ago by Rakusai Ohi. The seal of 'Ohi' is stamped on the bottom. The original wooden box with the signature and the seal of the artist is also included.

Ohi ware has become well known for its use of Ame-gusuri, or amber glaze. Being a Raku style, it was low-fired and is quite light and soft in the hands...

Japanese mid-century sosaku hanga woodblock print depicting a horse in a stable by Kiyoshi Saito (1907-1997). Signed in black ink at the lower left and with the artist's red seal above. Unlimited edition dating circa 1960. Paper size: 11 1/2" x 17 1/8" (image: 10 1/8" x just over 15"). The print was never framed and is in very good overall condition and color with full margins. There is some waviness to the paper and a couple of the margin corners have creases.

Cotton and silk, mixed weave haori with shibori asanoha (hemp leaf) pattern which is dyed with the root of murasaki or murasaki-sou (lithospermum), one kind of grass. It is called "shikon-zome". Murasaki was grown since Asuka period (very late 6th to early 8th century) and purple was thought as the noble color...

Beautifully engraved Japanese silver (.950 standard) cigarette case, early to mid 20th century, maker unknown, stamped with sterling and .950 standard, originally for cigarettes, now useful as card case. Measures 4 5/8" wide, 3 3/8" deep including latch and 3/8" high. Very fine quality silver, not unlike the wonderful master metal workers of the Meiji era, with lush designs of bamboo plants on a background of woven design...

Very beautiful Kinsai Iroe Shino ware tea bowl, signed and inclosed in its original wooden box. It was made about 60 years ago and it is decorated with a shiny gold leaf design and images of grass and plum trees.

The bowl is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. Signature on base.

Japanese chuban format shin hanga woodblock print by Takahashi Shotei, also known as Hiroaki (1871 - 1945) depicting two figures walking in the snow in the foreground, one holding a parasol walking toward a hut, the second crossing a bridge over a stream. A snow laden tree and torii gate are at the left. Titled "Snow at Ozawa; Torii Gate and a Cottage" the print was published by Watanabe prior to 1930. The title and artist's red Shotei seal are at the upper left...

A fine and large stoneware dish by Sakuma Totaro (1900~1979). Decorated with a flowering plum tree against an oatmeal coloured ground. The back is plain and glazed with a clear transparent ash glaze.

The original wood storage box (tomobako) lid is inscribed in ink "Mashiko decorative dish with plum in iron oxide", the signature of the potter with his red seal.

First son of Sakuma Fukujiro, a mingei potter in Mashiko, Totaro studied ceramics with his father...

Japanese shin hanga woodblock print depicting two beauties walking with umbrellas down a rainy evening street lined with storefronts titled "Evening at Ushigome Kagurazaka" from the series "Sketches of Famous Places in Japan" by Tsuchiya Koitsu (1870-1949) dated in the right margin "8th month of Showa 14" (1939). A prominent lantern holding the name of the publisher Doi hangs at the left. The title is above the date in the right margin...

Vintage Japanese uchikake (wedding kimono) crafted from heavy woven and embroidered silk brocade fabric with extensive gilt thread in a dense pattern of flowers and peacocks. Mid-20th century. The lining is fine red silk. Very good overall condition with only minor wear at the bottom corners where the lining meets the brocade. Measures about 73" in length by about 50" across. This very nice Chinese seal stone carving of a seated merchant is a mid 20th century product. It depicts a well dressed merchant sitting comfortably while holding a bag on his shoulder. He has an engaging smile on his face. It is 2 3/8” high, 1 ¾” wide and 1” thick. It is in excellent condition.

Made by a women of the Miao minority often referred to as the "tiny Miao" ...not because of their stature but because they were recongnize for their "tiny" embroidery stitches... This jacket was worn for festivals ...and shows some use...wonderful display piece and also could be worn by a small person....

Beautiful vintage Japanese sodenashi (work vest) made with indigo sakiori (rag weave) cotton, woven with multicolor areas to create a lovely patchwork effect, edged in solid indigo cotton, reinforced along the back, sides, and back of the neck in sashiko stitching. These vests were traditionally worn by workers in mountainous regions.
