Measuring 18.5 x 28 cm when opened and 18.5 x 19.5 cm when closed, this pair of purses are from Katawaz in Paktika province, Afghanistan. The embroidery technique is an intricate ladder stitch depicting whirling solar motifs combined with button hole stitches around the mirrors ("shisha"). The purses also feature beaded discs ("gul-i-peron") intended to ward off the evil eye - the same function performed by the mirrors. Silk thread on a green silk background. Condition excellent...

Measuring 36 x 222 cm including the beaded tassels, this wedding turban from Hazara district in Pakistan is hand-embroidered in mostly dark pinkish-red floss silk on an indigo dyed cotton ground. The meticulously worked satin stitch is typical of Hazara embroidery with close links to the phulkari embroidery of Punjab. One end of the turban is missing the tassles. Estimated age: mid to late 20th century.

Japanese Banko marbleware teapots, 1930’s. Enamelled decoration of flowers – irises and maple leaves to one pot. Unmarked. Height "3 ½/ 8,5 cm, width from spout to handle "6/ 15 cm. Together with a similar miniature pot (no lid), marked, height "1½/ 4 cm. The exterior unglazed, the insides glazed. Both pieces very thinly potted, translucent to the light, making all the different shades of clay visible. Condition: fine.
