This is a very elegant and high quality Japanese silk obi from Nishijin, Kyoto. The dimensions of the obi are 12 1/4" wide and 160 3/4" (13'4 3/4") long. About two-thirds of the front (104" long) is woven with gold. There are 2 full designs of an ox-cart with pine branches in the center area – only one of them is shown in the first photo – the other one is on the other side...

This is a large vase, and rather heavy, 21 1/2" long, 11" across, signed with a "P" in the chalky base. I've examined it closely and find no chips on rim or anywhere else. The piece is entirely hand thrown and decorated/painted, and quite Arts and Craftsy in feeling. I am a paintings specialist so this is somewhat out of my league. I did send images to Rago Auction in New Jersey and they were unable to identify the maker. It was found here in Southern California...

Westmoreland made Fruits on Beaded Edge in the late 1940's and 1950's. 4 of the plum tumblers are available, in excellent condition. 5" tall.

A huge old stamp seal in soapstone, carved with mythical beasts on the top of the square base, 20th. century AD.

Iris & Herringbone was originally made by Jeannette Glass Company from 1928 to 32 during the depression. Solid wooden folk art carving of a giant penis. Strapped around it are red and white twisted cotton cords (imenawash) with paper strips (gohei). Penises of this size were donated to Shinto shrines dedicated to fertility, in the hopes of getting pregnant. Or they were carried around during fertility festivals.

DESCRIPTION: A tribute to vintage industrial design, this attractive pulley, with a heavily cast iron shaft and swivel eye, is attached with snatch pins to a smooth, grooved wooden wheel. The pulley is a simple machine that, when used with a rope, will reduce the amount of force needed to lift a load. These make wonderful decorative accents within a country, farmhouse or industrial decor. In excellent working condition, no rust. DIMENSIONS: 12” long x 6” wide.

This ivory carving of ShouXin (God of longevity) accompanied by a young girl is a mid 20th century product. This ShouXin is 5 ½” high, 1 ½” wide and 1 ¼” thick; the young girl is 3” high, 1 ½” wide and 1” thick. The carved wood base with a pine tree design is 1” high, 4 ¼” wide and 2” thick. The carving depicts ShouXin carrying a long carved staff in his left hand; the other hand is holding a RuYi scepter...

Vintage Japanese oil painting on canvas, landscape of Usa in Oita prefecture, by Midorikawa Kotaro (1904-1983) as a modern Japanese painter during Taisho-Showa period. Showa 35 (1960)...

The bouquet of flowers for this stunning silk fukusa was made using yuzen resist dying, free-hand embroidery, and gold surihaku, with gold and silver foil couching applied to create the bow. On the reverse side is a large mons (family crest). Three of the four original silk tassels are still intact. As a decorative item, this fukusa would make a fabulous wall hanging or framed artwork. In excellent condition, we estimate this fukusa to be mid Showa. It measures 26” wide x 29” high...

This gown has an exceptionally beautiful red. It is satin but feels almost like velvet. The condition is new, probably never been used. The bottom padding was still covered with a white cloth when this Uchikake was purchased (Enlargement 5). The measurements are 53" wide and 73" long.

The Crinkle pattern was produced by Morgantown glass company in the late 1350's and into the 1960's. This is the 6 1/2 oz tumbler. The tumbler is 4 inches high and in perfect condition. A very rare wood and pewter bar caraffe or decanter with glass thermos liner and Swiss made musical movement which plays "The Blue Danube" by Johann Strauss. This item was designed by Aldo Tura for Macabo of Milan, Northern Italy, and made circa 1958. Condition: excellent - there is a little rusting to the movement which is in good working condition; there are no damages and no repairs or restoration. 32cm (12.6 inches) high.
