Antique Japanese 4 panel screen with rooster and hen. This unusual screen has gold lacquered open lattice work backed with the original sheer white silk. A beautiful scene of a blossoming plum tree, yellow daisies and chickens makes up the carved and painted foreground. The bottom portion of each panel is pierced carved and painted with scenes of rocks and cymbidium orchids.

Antique Chinese square faceted box made of black lacquered wood with inset rattan panels. The top of the box is decorated with a rural scene of court figures in a garden painted in gold lacquer on a black lacquer ground. The box stands on small feet and cut-out details on the bottom portion of the box are lacquered red. A beautiful overall crackle of the lacquer speaks of the box's age.

This is Song Dynasty (960 – 1276) yingqing jar with cover. The motif on top of the cover is moulded. On the body, just below the neck, on the shoulder, it is incised with what looks like S-shaped sunray, on the centre part of the body, it is incised with lotus flowers and foliage and at the lower part towards the base, it is incised with upright leaf lappets.

Some minor abrasions. There are no chip, crack, restoration or repair...

This chawan was made by the 8th generation Ohi Chozaemon (1851-1927) based in Kanazawa and is done in a style known as “ameyu” or candy glazing. The glazing is a wonderful example of ameyu and, in fact, approximates the color of a caramel candied-apple. The interesting color scheme and glossy sheen make it an attractive backdrop for a frothy bowl of dark green matcha. While some tea bowls may look best in the confines of a dimly lit tea room, this bowl looks much better in bright light...

A high grade Japanese Kura samurai saddle detailed in high relief lacquer. The maewa (front arched plate) and shizuwa (rear arched plate) display a lacquer relief carp climbing a waterfall motif. The maewa and shizuwa are connected by two igi (contoured side bands). A fine cricket cage, composed of a body made from a gourd and a rim and lid made of ivory. The lid itself is nicely carved to represent a lotus and foliage around surmounting an openwork geometric design. Its silk case, partly damaged, is joined to the cage. China, 19th century. This is a very unique copper alloy or bronze axe head. It is possibly Elamite in origin. It appears to be an early piece based on the reddish brown patina that is typical of high copper content pieces. It does appear to have been cleaned at some point. The socket is rectangular. There is a perforation on either side of the socket for attachment to the shaft pole. There is also a perforation in the rear blade which may or may not be original to the piece...

A richly enameled and well modeled Kannon seated upon a purple scrolled tailed beast of green. Measuring 10" in height and 10" in length, the figure is well preserved. There is a chip to the right foot of the Kannon and three enamel flakes to the hair. No cracks or repairs.

Late 18th Century Gonin-Bayashi, Five Japanese Musicians displayed on a Hina stand. This set was made as an addition to those Ningyo already displayed on a tiered stand. They imitate a Noh orchestra. This set has very finely carved faces, covered with burnished Gofun. Because of their size and age, these are highly desired by collectors. Average height of figures is 4 inches (10 cm).

This is a very nice bronze dagger or spear blade from the ancient near East - probably from Northern Iran circa 1200 BC or earlier. It has a thin, flat blade with a reinforced midrib. It has a perforation in the tang which is covered by the patina. It also has some slight bending in the blade which is why I have listed it for such a low price. It does not appear to be damaged or repaired in any other way. It measures roughly 23 cm in length and weighs 84 grams.

A Japanese lacquer bowed top box with portrait of a Kabuki actor - presumably named in gold lacquer and the role of Daihachi named in a lustrous iron color. All slightly raised work, the portrait is in gray, black, red, flesh tone, browns and gold. Lines including pattern and folds in the figure's attire and hair in his coiffure and sideburns cleanly defined with raised work. Japanese 17th/18th century scroll painting of a buddhist priest, outlined in a very rare style of incredibly tiny calligraphy mantra. The mantra repeats "Amida Butsu Nam Mo". The meditating priest holds a strand of mala beads and a willow branch and is seated upon a green lotus throne on clouds. The figure is most likely "Dengyo Daishi", the monk who brought Buddhism into Japan.

A nice Qianlong mark and period non-imperial 'minyao' bowl, potted sturdily with a bubbly light-greenish clear glaze and underglaze decorations in a deep true cobalt blue.
