Japanese large Imari Porcelain Punch Bowl, 4 1/2" high, 12" diameter-top, early 1920, with typical Imari colors of red, green and orange overglaze enamel on top of the underglaze blue, and highlighted in gold. Very delightful Japanese garden scene just outside the door or window in divided cartouches. There are some scratch marks on the bottom inside the bowl, no cracks, no restoration, no damage.

A small porcelain teapot with molded chrysanthemum blossom decoration and arch-shaped handle. Thick greyish clay with craquelé. Condition: few tiny rim frits near the spout end, no repairs. Dimension: 12.4 cm high x 12.8 cm long.

This is Japanese porcelain vase from one of the great Meiji artists. It is signed Kawamoto Hansuke. The vase has a wonderful stout shape and is very heavy. It has what appears to be several firing flaws or just an unusual design to several of the flowers. The vase measures 7 1/4 tall and is 7 1/2 inches wide.

From our Japanese Collection, a good kutani baluster-shaped jar and cover, Meiji Period (1868-1912), executed in traditional kutani palette of iron-red, green, yellow, and gilt highlights, depicting a continuous scene of figures gathered around the circumference of the piece. Japanese Meiji Period SATSUMA monogrammed plate. Signature stamp and gold signature by KINKOZAN. Plate has "JL" monogrammed on the top border of the plate. 8 3/4" diameter by 3/4" depth.

This is a beautiful Japanese Porcelain Charger or shallow bowl. It just glows. The work is very similar to the work we have seen done by the Fukagawa or Koransha factory but it is not signed. Condition is excellent. There is a minor factory smear of gold on the front center. It can bee seen in the images. This might why the piece is not signed. It can bee seen in the images. The charger is 12 5/8 inches across and has deep sides making it 2 1/4 inches tall.

This is an early Japanese Imari vase from the last quarter of the 1800's. The leaves and flowers are painted in thick colorful enamels. There are also some gold highlights. The vase is very heavy and stoutly made. It is 10 inches tall and 8 1/2 inches wide. Condition is very good with some expected wear. Still a very fine old display piece.

This is a fine Japanese Imari bowl purchased a few years ago from a collection belonging to a San Francisco Museum. The inventory numbers on this de-accessioned piece can be seen on the underside of the bowl. The bowl is beautiful and has a wonderful fluted design. It measures 10 across and is just under 4 1/2 inches tall. Condition is excellent.

This is a special old Japanese Imari bowl. The crane design and use of enamels is very attractive. The piece looks similar to some of the early Fukagawa pieces. Condition is very good and there is mainly wear to the gold trim on the top rim. This heavy bowl measures 7 inches across and stands 3 1/4 tall.

A Japanese porcelain “100 Boys” plate, 18th century.

This unusual plate was made in Arita between 1720 and 1760. It shows a hall crammed with boys, an elevated youthful figure surrounded by attendants, two of which are carrying fans. To me it looks like the interior of a temple with children depicting the abbot and gathering of monks. Above the Abbot can be found a sign, Hyakushindo, “The Hall of 100 Children.” ( Baizitang in Chinese )...

A JAPANESE EXPORT DISH, LATE 17TH CENTURY.

This fine dish is decorated with designs taken from Ming Chinese Wanli 'Kraak' wares and came about as a result of a disruption of Chinese production during a period of unrest. Dutch traders who found their Chinese trade stopped resorted to ordering from Japanese makers. The Japanese versions of these Kraak style pieces are usually thicker than the very thin Chinese Kraak wares and this has ensured their survival in often pristine condition...

Gargoyle or bat-like dragon-esque creatures spread their wings among tendrils of flame on the heavily decorated blue sides of this large pair of 19th century Sometsuke Japanese nesting bowls. Within boats ply the placid waters. The larger bowl is 24.5 cm (just less than 10 inches) diameter,10cm (4 inches) tall. The smaller is 21 cm diameter, 10cm tall and both are in excellent condition, dating from the 19th century.

Two very rare Ko-imari rice bowls from the Genroku period. C. 1690-1710. These are just gorgeous, the bottoms are painted in the chevron pattern, and various geometrical patterns of roundels with honey comb patterns throughout. Two dragons adorn either side of each cup and each surrounded with colors of iron red and green enamels with gold gilt accents. Unusual porcelain bowl in the shape of a double gourd with two separate compartments. The large section is for washing brushes; the small section may be used as a brush holder.

This early 19th century Japanese Imari vase is 10 ½ inches high and 4 ½ inches on the widest part. The top of the vase had been cut and polished. Two peony blossoms were painted over the lower part. Three small circles on the upper were painted pine, plum blossom and bamboo. It has a green “Fuku – Happiness” mark on the bottom. Aside from some faded color due to its age, it is in great condition.

A pair of blue and white Hirado oil jars or bottles of squat shape, Meiji period, c 1900. Molded decoration of Paulownia leaves in reserves and an under-glaze blue diaper (grid) pattern. One with a cork stopper crowned by a small silver bird. Height: "2 ¼ /6 cm, diameter: "3 ¾ / 9 cm. Condition: small glaze crack near the mouth to one jar, otherwise fine.

This late19th Century Japanese Imari (Aka-e) vase is 7 ½” high and 3 ¾” at its widest part. It depicts cherry blossoms and orchids in two sections, fruit (peach or persimmon) and some unknown flowers are painted on the rest of body. There are three small butterflies painted on the rim. Aside from a few blisters and smudged color due to firing, it is in excellent condition.

Japanese pair of round fish plates. The raised details of the fish is painted in blue glaze. Along the edges, an impressed pattern makes up the fish's dorsal and pectoral fins. On the bottom, the maker's mark is a tiny blue floret.

A beautiful Japanese golden brocade plate dating to the early 18th century, a powerful rendering of a Kylin is majestically displayed front and center. This unusual ko-imari plate is without flaw and has a slight creme color tone to the porcelain, it is very unique in terms of beauty and presentation. It measures 9.5" x 2" (24.1 cm x 5.1 cm).

Manufactured specifically for export to Europe sometime during the first half of the 18th century. The cutout, rather small in this case, is to allow the bowl to fit comfortably under the chin when the barber is wielding the razor. Barbers at that time also provided a service to the medical profession by bleeding patients and these bowls are sometimes called 'Bleeding Bowls'. An exceptionally fine porcelain bowl made for presentation, kenjo-te. The centre of the dish is decorated with an unusual version of a Karashishi which would seem to be floating upon a feather set against a net like blue ground which has been produced using the shiranaku technique.
