A Very Fine White Nephrite Jade Hair Pin: China, 19th century This is a very beautifully carved floriform shaped head incised with a “Shou” character in the centrer and suround by floral petals and Ruyi form, the smooth curving stem, of a white nephrite hair pin in very fine quality. Up for sale is this wonderfully textured 19th century Japanese cast iron tea kettle made by noted Kyoto-school tetsubin craftsman Kibundo ( 1812-1892 ).

It is cast in high relief with the image of writings and a landscape.

This fine kettle bears the body-mark “Kibundo zo” and a remnant of the square seal mark of Kibundo on the bottom.

1800s

Carved on one side is an old gnarled pine tree growing out of a rocky outcrop. The vase is of a flattened ovoid shape with a rectangular foot that is hollowed to the base. The stone has a white jade-like quality, but is probably a type of serpentine. The tree is carved in high relief with some under-carving, giving it a feeling of being carved almost in the round. The stone is flecked with silvery inclusions and very light brownish veining in a few places...

A Chinese Bronze Censer, Qing Dynasty. Diameter approximately 17.2 cm, height approximately 6.4 cm and weight approximately 730 gram. Good condition.

This late 19th century Chinese famille-rose water jar is 2 ¾ inches tall and 2 ¾ inches wide. It depicts five boys in a procession. The first two boys are holding banners and gongs. The third is holding a lantern. The forth child is dressed in red and is riding a Qilin (a Chinese legendary animal which has a dragon head and ox body). This boy carries a puppet. The last boy is holding a fancy umbrella. The workmanship is excellent and it is in great condition.

This brush pot displays shallow carving with incising utilizing the natural “skin” of the bamboo to depict a scene of tortoise, cranes, and pine as a wish for longevity. The carver's name is incised beneath the pine tree. It is in good condition and has a nice patina. There is some wear to the interior from use. Acquired in London in the mid 1980s.

19th century Chinese soap stone sculpture. A reclining Lo-Han is petting a lion cub. The thin man has a curly beard, one foot bare, the other wearing a sandal; his robe is open to expose his bare chest with ribs showing. Carved black wood base. The sculpture has some minor flaws due to age. H: 9 ½ inches, W: 6 inches

Ming Dynasty, ca. 1500s

Cast with flowing robe and benevolent facial expression. Stands upon a base cast in the form of sea waves surrounded by low a fence raised upon a hexagonal plinth. Figure and base were cast separately with the figure being attached to the base with two bronze pins. The figure was originally lacquered overall then gilded. Remains of this gilt lacquer can be seen especially in the creases of the robe and the hair around the edges of the hood...

A Chinese Bronze Censer, Qing Dynasty. Diameter approximately 14.6 cm (across handles), height approximately 10.6 cm, the weight of the censer 1100 gram and 520 gram for the stand. The censer has been polished and has few of scratches at the body. Normal age wear. Good condition.

1700s

White stone has a very pale celadon tinge and some translucency where the carving is thin. The curving shaft terminating in a dragon’s head has a smaller chilong winding its way toward the larger dragon’s head. The underside is carved with a button for attachment. It is well-carved and polished and in very good condition. Acquired 20 years ago in a Richmond, Va. Estate.

Southern Song Dynasty Longquan ware ( 1227 - 1279 ) Diameter : 16,6 cm. H : 6,9 cm. Condition : Perfect. The last image shows the bowl together with bowl # 302 Both bowls together as a pair would be a nice addition to any Longquan - collection.

A striking example of a Bohemian Rococo Revival baluster goblet, with a high domed foot. The entire glass is engraved, with foliage, German writing, a crown, and the date "1876" on the bowl, foliage and writing on the foot, and foliage even on the knop. A true tour de force of decorative skill; 8 1/4" tall, 3 1/8" diameter bowl, 3 3/8" diameter foot

Xuande mark, but ca. 1600s

This incense-burner was originally lacquered a reddish brown tone with traces remaining, and has small areas of verdigris on the base and handles. The interior has some verdigris and encrusted ash. The base is cast in the center with an archaistic style six-character Xuande mark. The overall surface is darkened and has worn unevenly from age and use. A design of two opposing phoenix birds wraps around the body in shallow incising work. Overall good condition...

Early 20th century Chinese fine famille-rose vase is 8 ½ inches tall and 4 ¾ inches on the widest part. It depicts five children playing. It has a Qian Long mark on the bottom. However, we assume the mark is fictitious. It is beautifully painted and in good condition except for a tiny flaw on the rim.

A Chinese Bronze Islamic Market Vase. The heavy pear-shaped body with an Islamic inscription to each side, a band of key fret to the neck. Chinese 19thC. Height: 5 3/8″ (13.5 cm). Condition: light wear

This pair of Qing Dynasty Famille Rose Mille Fleurs (thousand flowers) plates are 1 ¼” high and 9 ¾” in diameter. They depict a large pink peony in the center and chrysanthemum, lily, hibiscus, iris and several unknown flowers cover both plates. There are Guang Xu (1875~1908) marks and three separate floral (peony) designs on the bottoms. The workmanship is elegant. The gold edging on the rims has slightly rubbed off. Aside from this minor wear, they are in great condition.

From our Chinese Polychrome Collection, a high quality Rose Medallion plate, 19th century either Tongzhi Period (1862-1874) or Guangxu Period (1875-1908). Executed in the typical palette of pinks, blues, greens, yellows, whites and gilt with four individual cartouches: Two contain various figures usually representing scenes from either The Romance of the Western Chamber or The Dream of Red Mansions, the other two contain birds and foliage...

Wooden saddle, "kura" made of wood and iron fittings. Meiji Era (1868-1912,) but the top board is a later addition. This flat board makes it ideal for display items, especially for flowers. H. 44cm(17.25") x W.68cm(26.75") x D. 32cm(12.5").

Beautiful handpainted biscuit jar, either Moser or Mt. Joye, decorated with a large iris on the front and smaller one on the back. It is in perfect condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The handle and lid, although they look good, could use resilvering. It measures 7 1/2" tall to the top of the lid x 5" in diameter.

This middle 19th century pale green with red over glaze brush washer has icy crackles covering the entire body. There are a few chips on the bottom from firing. It is 4 inches in diameter and 1 ¼ inches high. Very good condition.

A charming 'mutton-fat' jade carving of the Hehe Erxian (or 'Hehe Twins') holding a basket (containing a bat) also a lotus flower and probably made in the 18th Century during the reign of the Qianlong Emperor (1736-1795)...

Depicting the casual scene of a court lady reading a scroll under a pine tree while a attendant boy hidden behind the trunk reaching his head out by curiosity, the craftsman maneuvered his fine and affluent carving skill to make the picture as much detailed and pleasant as well.
The cylinder was carved in deep relief and was pierced through in some portions to allow the incense smoke to swirl out.

Longquan ware, Zhejiang with a nice rare Guan like crackled glaze. Song to Yuan Dynasties, thirteenth to fourteenth centuries. D : 5,5 cm. H : 4,3 cm. Nearly the same shape and size like the piece listed before ( # 230 ) - would be a nice pair and a nice addition to any Longquan collection. Condition : Perfect

 

Ming blue and white dish decorated with " ox gazing at the moon" motive. and buddhisme simbol at outer wall. 20,5cm diameter. dish has one small chipped at the rim with following short hairline . Free from any restorations.

A good lacquered bamboo brushpot (Bitong),depicting Shou xing and a deer, delicately painted in a style more commonly seen on large gilt decorated blue glazed vases that are attributed to the late Qianlong/Jiaqing reigns . The inscription reads : "Imitated at (?) Tai Zhengya's Calligraphy Studio of Elegant Living, for his comments". Condition is good - one age related crack and a little wear to the gilding. No further damages/losses. 5.25 inches (13.4cm) High.
