Chinese Ming Dynasty Blue & White Porcelain Bowl - Birds

This blue and white porcelain bowl was made in the 16th century. It is decorated in underglaze blue of good colour, the design featuring birds perched upon blossoming branches. To the base is a seal mark (not translated).

Diameter 12 cm. It is in good condition. There is minor surface wear, some "fritting" of the glaze at the rim edge and a kiln scar at the top of the outer wall...

This attractive blue & white porcelain bowl was made during the latter part of the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644). The underglaze blue decoration around the outer wall depicts a varied landscape that includes a bird (stork) in flight, a bird sitting in a tree in blossom and a winged insect. The inside of the bowl is decorated with a blossoming flower.

Chinese Ming Dynasty Blue & White Porcelain Bowl - Deer

This blue & white porcelain bowl was made during the latter part of the Ming Dynasty (!368 - 1644). The underglaze blue decoration around the outer wall features a deer walking in a landscape. The inside of the bowl is decorated with a blossoming flower. The deer represents longevity as it is the only animal able to find the sacred fungus of long life and immortality.
