From our Chinese Polychrome Collection, a charming and unpretentious Famille Rose teacup and saucer, Qianlong Period (1736-1795), most likely late Qianlong 1760-1785, decorated in a delicate floral pattern in Famille Rose palette, with a Batavian Brown (iron oxide) dressing on the reverse.

Size and Condition: The saucer is 5 inches in diameter, the teacup 2 7/8 inches across, 1 1/2 inches tall. Small inconsequential nick to footrim of teacup essentially perfect.

An unusually elaborate pottery figure of a female Attendant, Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD.), dating to late Ming periodc. 1550-1600 AD.

The lady is clad in a large thick robe, with an imposing hairdress and she is wearing a basket with red flowers and is standing on a round plint. She is glazed in torquise and dark blue colours.

Nicely painted facial details, careful thick glazing and a fine expression.

This piece was made at the southern China in last Ming period, exported to Japan and transmitted from generation to generation there. The pattern with "Looking back rabbit" was very popular. Unfortunately, the wooden box was lost. Certification: written by Noriki Shimazu the famous researcher for Asian antiques in Japan.

The cover decoration of this box, executed in an extremely nice cobalt blue, is well known as the central medallion of the inner decoration of some extremely rare underglaze blue Imperial Chenghua "Palace Bowls". This Ge glazed dish is at least from the early Qing Dynasty but most probably the piece is older. Please compare the shape and the unglazed base of the piece with similar Ge glazed pieces from the early Ming and the Yuan Dynasty.
