Unusual early 19th (can be as early as 18th) century Chinese pewter covered round box, the cover with brass inlay of a flowering bush. Might have been used on scholar’s table for storing small items such as ink cakes. Beautiful patina, pleasantly heavy, wonderful feel of age to the piece. Diameter 3 3/8 inches, height 2 1/4 inches.

DESCRIPTION: A very handsome antique Chinese Yu mu (Northern Chinese Elm) bed with carved center apron and stout, inward turning horse-hoof feet. The rectangular top of this bed is inset with rattan, supported by strong woven webbing underneath. Yu mu, or Northern Elm, has an elaborate and beautiful wave-like grain and is favored for Northern Chinese furniture.

This is a small shard bowl with the Tibetan lanca charcters or scripts. In the center of the bowl, it has a single large lanca character. All around the cavetto and on the outside of the bowl, it is covered all round with the same script lanca characters. At the back of the recess foot rim, it shows an embalm of a mace with ribbons.
