Perfect potting, elegant shape, beautiful underglaze powder green ground, eyes and beaks of of the birds are done in underglaze blue, in perfect condition. Signed in underglaze blue SENPO SENO SEI (Made in Senpo’s pottery) on the bottom. Height 3 3/8 inches.

A low Japanese Negoro incense table with many layers of black, red, and translucent lacquer pigment. Naturally worn finish consistent with age an use. European style hand carved leg and foot. Original hardware of hand forged iron. Traditionally used as a low stand to raise up an incensor.

Antique Japanese single section tansu with locking bar. With Keyaki (elm/zelkova) hardwood front panels in original red lacquer finish and black lacquer frame. The top and bottom drawers feature a large iron lock plate in the form of a flying phoenix, while the middle drawers are secured by the vertical locking bar with original key. Late Meiji period (1890s to 1912) Japanese buffalo horn kushi (hair comb) with lacquer decoration of feathered arrows, design continuing over the ridge onto the back. Very well made, pleasantly thick body, excellent lacquering with fine gold flakes scattered throughout the background, feathers with tiny mother of pearl inlays, wonderful work in Japanese taste, in great condition without any losses. Length 4 inches.

From our Japanese Collection, a good kutani baluster-shaped jar and cover, Meiji Period (1868-1912), executed in traditional kutani palette of iron-red, green, yellow, and gilt highlights, depicting a continuous scene of figures gathered around the circumference of the piece. A small but charming example of genuine 19th century kutani.

A Fukagawa eight and 3/8 inch salad plate. Iris dcoration from Chuji Fukagawa's own 19th century design book. Blue underglaze and red, yellow and gold overglaze enamel decoration including random butterflys. Mt. Fuji mark in underglaze blue inside the foot ring. Late Meiji or early Taisho. Japanese Blue and White Transfer ware Porcelain Square cut corner deep Platter, 12" square, 1 1/2" high, pine tree, mountain and river design in the center, and two different shade of transfer blue design of trees, foliage and butterflies on the wide border. One shallow flake chip 3/4" wide underneath the rim and some old frits on the corner of the dish, and scratches in the glaze on top of the dish.

Museum grade very large Japanese Ginbari enamel vase. Ginbari is a technique using a foil design made with an embossing plate. The vase has a robin's egg blue enamel ground comprised of small flowers, with Wisteria branches bearing pastel green and purple flowers, small birds perched and flying through the tree branches. The elongated vase has a slightly tapered form with short, fluted foot and neck...

This is a representation of Shotoku taishi (574 A.D.-622 A.D.), the young princely protector of Buddhism in Japan. At the age of twenty, he reorganized Japan by promoting Chinese Confucian and Buddhist principles. His well known "Constitution with 17 Articles" was the first written law of Japan. The articles begin by emphasizing the importance of harmony, which is still the foundation of the Japanese culture. The figure is from the Kutani kilns, 7 inches tall

Beautifully made, excellent lacquer work, wonderful piece in Japanese taste, some insect damage as can be seen on photos. Signed in rectangular reserve with 2 characters possibly reading KOTO followed by red seal. Length 3.38 inches.
