Antique Japanese menuki of a snarling fu dog's head over gilt flowing "fabric", made with gold ,silver, shakudo,copper and bronze.. Menuki are one of many components to a Japanese sword, mounted as an ornament on the tsuka (handle). They are believed by some to secure the swordsman's grip. Size: 1.75" long, .5" wide

A fine, small ginbari cloisonne vase with pale blue, silver background and peonies decoration; one panel with pale purple background and bird, bamboo and flowers decoration; and another panel with blue background and flowers decoration. Impressed artist's mark on the metal base. Meiji period (1868 - 1912). Good condition with tiny, oxidized pinholes in the enamel surface from the firing (not detracting from condition or presentation). Height, 3 1/2 inches (8.9 cm)

Japanese light Kiri and Cedar Wood two(2) section Tansu, chest on chest with original light color wood and hardware, Ca. 1940, 42" high, 36" wide, 16" deep, two(2) long drawers in upper section above one(1) short drawer next to two(2) small drawers on the right in lower level. All drawers have heavy ornate back plate and heavy black iron handles, the condition is good, original condition, all the black iron works are solid and heavy.

Antique Japanese satsuma urn with a gorgeous deep blue and gold glaze, with two Komainu (also known as lion dogs) serving as handles, a lid with a third Komainu, growling and with his front paw resting upon a xiù qiú ball. The lid and top portion of the urn are adorned in beautiful golden and white roses, and its front and backside depict beautiful scenery of the ocean behind many brightly clothed characters...

The mask is of dark brownish lacquer finish and the interior is black lacquer. The high jaw has two protruding hooks for strapping the cords, and underneath the chin is a vent hole. The Saru Bo is fitted with yodare kare covered in lacquered black leather with three lames plates and blue silk lacing.

Late Meiji period (1890s to 1912) Japanese buffalo horn kushi (hair comb) with carved and gold lacquered decoration of a phoenix in flight on one side and stylized crest of the Toyotomi samurai family in a shape of flowering paulownia. Superbly made, crisp carving, excellent lacquering, wonderful work in Japanese taste, in great condition. Length 3.2 inches.

Large Japanese Imari charger, 18 3/8” in diameter, with vibrant enameling and excellent facial expressions. The subject matter is 'The Seven Sages of Bamboo Grove'. One hairline at the bottom rim and crazing on the rim. Meiji Period (1868-1912).

This solid Japanese Meiji bronze elephant is very heavy with skin and muscles modelled to a high standard. The elephant looks very animated and was obviously created by an artist of great talent. It is marked on the base with what looks to be a slightly rubbed Seiya signature. There is no damage to this piece.

Japanese makie lacquer sake wine Dishes with an auspicous design of Sho-Chiku-Bai (pines,plums & bumboos). This design is a happy ceremonial symbol for the gold taka-makie (raised design) designs with kirigane (small gold leaf squares) on brownish red (with purple tone) lacquer. A gorgeous Japanese isho tansu (clothing chest) from the Sendai region, with a red lacquer Sugi (cedar) frame and Keyaki (elm) front drawers in its original, rich honey finish. Each drawer opens with mokko (melon) style handles on lotus back plates, and is adorned with elaborate scrolling vine iron locks. The bottom safe box holds three red lacquer front drawers, and hides away a secret back compartment.

Late Meiji (1890s to 1912) boxwood netsuke of a seated monkey wearing a haori (short jacket) and trying to get to the head of a turtle as it inspects its carapace. Very unusual feature - himotoshi (cord opening) is formed by a removable peach that is part of the jacket design (see Enlargement 2).
