This is a beautiful antique Japanese Imari bowl in excellent condition, no chips, hairlines, nor repairs.
The measurements of this bowl is 8 1/4 inches in diameter and 3 1/2 inches high and very solid (heavy). Signed.

Antique Japanese Noh theatre mask of a young woman, or Onna. Hand-carved cypress wood with katabori chisel mark patina. Her face is hand-painted in dimensional flesh tones, with blackened teeth, red lips, and wisps of hair.

1890s - 1910s (late Meiji - early Taisho) Japanese inkstone in simple rectangular shape with carved keyfret border and central grinding area. Used for grinding of an inkstick on the surface of the stone. Akama stone of shiunseki type with characteristic reddish brown color - Akama inkstones are quite famous, and come from the Yamaguchi Prefecture. Beautiful patina, traces of ink on the grinding surface, comes with fitted wooden cover. Very nice object for scholars table, in excellent condition...

Antique Japanese ikebana (flower arrangement) basket. Hand-woven with thin branches of bamboo, the body is tall and slender with a dramatic fluted foot. The base is has deeply recessed inner edges, with the rounded, wagon-wheel design center in high relief. The mouth of the basket has a slightly flared lip, and the handle is comprised of several twisted bamboo branches. With bamboo insert.

A shell incense box (kogo) painted in relief pure gold with waka writing inside with probably poetic or romantic references. Very similar to shells for the game of kaiawase, but larger in size. Edo period 19th century Sizes: 5 x 10 x 8 cm Condition report: Good condition – with tomobako

A Fukagawa porcelain 8 7/8 inch soup bowl. Iris decoration from Chuji Fukagawa's own 19th century design book. Blue underglaze and red, yellow and gold overglaze enamel decoration. Mt. Fuji mark and Fukagawa Sei inside the foot ring. Late Meiji or early Taisho. Good condition. Priced for each soup bowl, there were five available in good condition when listed. Late Meiji period (1890s to 1912) Japanese wooden kushi (hair comb) with lacquer decoration of cranes in flight on the background of pine branches. Beautifully made out of dense wood allowing for fine teeth, excellent lacquer work, wonderful piece in Japanese taste, some losses as can be seen on photos. Length 4.06 inches.

A Japanese single section Sendai tansu, constructed of Keyaki (elm) front panels and Sugi (cedar) sides, with original light finish and black lacquered frame. The drawers of this chest have large, decorative, hand-forged iron lock plates with floral motifs and mokko (melon) handles. The side of the chest has a safe door with 3 small Keyaki burl front drawers inside.

Unusual Japanese small gyosho bako (merchant's box) made with Kiri (Paulownia) wood in all original finish. The box holds four drawers, with decorative black iron plating and handles. The top 3 drawer interiors have been lacquered in black while the bottom drawer has also been lacquered in red. With original keys included.

Nabeshima hard porcelain dish. Okawachi kilns. Decoration in underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze enamels. Although the model already exists at the beginning of the 18th century, we do not believe that the dish presented here is authentic. The enamels are perfect, one can distinguish with a magnifying glass discreet wear of use and the enamels show age cracks, but the cobalt blue on the reverse is too pale. It is not a modern copy, as it has been in the Sakura collection for about forty years...

Exceptionally well made, excellent lacquering, wonderful work in Japanese taste, some wear and insect damage as can be seen on photos. Length 3.43 inches.

The battle of Dan-no-ura was a major battle of the Genpei war, occurring at Dan-no-ura, in the Shimonoseki Strait off the Southern tip of Honshu in the year 1185. One of the crucial factors that allowed the Minamoto to win the battle was that a Taira general Taguchi Shigeyoshi defected and attacked his Taira Clan from the rear. Japanese small porcelain blue and white water dropper, of a rectangular form with four very short legs. The top of the piece features lingzhi, lotus, and tight scrolling motifs with floral medallions over waves on its sides.
