A bronze and ivory okimono depicting a street entertainer playing the shamisen, a Japanese musical instrument. The player wears a traditional kimono, rests his right foot on his box which he carries along with his umbrella on his traveling journey. It is signed Jōnan 城南 with engraving on the bronze. Japanese Shino ware ceramic chawan or tea ceremony bowl. Shino ware is easily identified by thick white glazes, red scorch marks, and a texture of small holes. One side of the bowl has dark brown underglaze design of flowers while the opposite side has flecks and lines, along the dramatic ribbed edges of the body. The foot of the bowl is formed flattened and is left bare without any glaze.

A beautiful Japanese lacquer jubako, or tiered storage box, with nishiji background made from sprinkled gold flakes. Each side is decorated by maki-e lacquer imagery of shochikubai, meaning "three friends of winter", bamboo, plum, and pine with gold and silver leaves and flowers. The interior of each level is coated in bright red lacquer. The jubako comes with its own tomobako, or storage box, as well as a second lid. Size: 17" height, 9" width

An exceptionally fine five colour early Imari flat dish with everted rim. The dish is painted with an arrangement of Chrysanthemums displayed in a larger censer upon a low table or wood stand within a border of stylised scrolls and flowers. This is Japanese shallow bowl from the great porcelain factory, Fukagawa. It is beautifully decorated throughout with an intense boarder of hand painting and gold work on the scalloped edge. It is in excellent condition. The bowl measures 9 3/4 across and is 2 inches deep.

Late 18th to early 19th century boxwood netsuke of a turtle hiding in its carapace. Excellent detailing - see the incised patterns of the carapace, its legs with scaly pattern leathery skin and horn inlaid eyes. Late 19th century Japanese stoneware kogo (box for incense during tea ceremony) in a form of Daikoku holding a rice bale in front of him. Daikoku is one of the 7 Gods of Good Fortune, that of rice, and, as a consequence, of wealth. Stoneware with wonderful potting, beautiful celadon glaze, very pleasant patina. A Japanese soft and valuable boxwood netsuke depicting a young naked woman kneeling with towel and bucket in the onsen bath 温泉, the Japanese “thermal baths”. Finely sculpted with an excellent patina and soft touch. Himotoshi (holes that allow thread to pass through) large and small on the back. Samurai Yoritomo (Minamonoto) Japanese Doll, first Kamakura Shogun dressed in Suoh, high ranking Samurai's attire in Kamakura Period. The doll was possibly made by Maruhei in Kyoto. Circa Taisho period, 1920-1930. Damages in the black cloth hat.

The measurements: 14 inches to the tip of his hair and 13 inches across the sleeves at the bottom when the doll is displayed. The bow is a new addition.

Splendid Aka Raku Chawan dating from the later Edo Period (1603-1868). It has a wonderful crazing and a very rare form. Great condition with no cracks or repairs.

The chawan comes with a good wooden box.

Lacquer kobako box with two compartments in the shape of a fan. Decorated with pine trees near a stream on all sides in takamaki-e, hiramaki-e techniques with a nashi-ji background. On the upper side, a couple of cranes are looking for food on the ground, while three baby cranes are waiting in the nest located in the pine tree. Interior in nashi-ji lacquer.
