Antique Japanese Noh theatre mask of a young woman, or Onna. Hand-carved cypress wood with katabori chisel mark patina. Her face is hand-painted in dimensional flesh tones, with blackened teeth, red lips, and wisps of hair.

A spectacular Meiji to Taisho period Golden box decorated with a spray of flowers under an imperial Chrysanthemum. The interior and bottom are elegant Nashiji, and the border between box and lid is protected by a solid silver rim. Kirigane cut gold flakes decorate the raised leaves. It comes enclosed in a custom made kiri-wood storage box. The gilded receptacle is 30 x 24.5 x 14 cm (12 x 9-3/4 x 5-1/2 inches) and it is in excellent condition.

Late Meiji to early Taisho (1910s) Japanese boxwood okimono of a sleeping monk. The subject is a metaphor for a failure to reach enlightenment - instead of seeking and understanding the profound power of Buddha’s teaching the monk falls asleep. Nicely carved, wonderful tranquil face, pleasant patina. A cigarette case made of iron, partially damascened in different golds and silver, inspired by the famous sculpture of the American artist James Earle Fraser (1876-1953) "End of the Trail", which he designed in the late 19th C. The interior with the Otojiro's mark with dragonfly. Condition: traces of usage, two tiny retouches, tiny scratches, elastic band tired, not perfectly closing, interior with left below corner slightly corroded (last photo). Dimension closed: c. 8.6 x 8.1 cm.

Antique Japanese ikebana (flower arrangement) basket. Hand-woven with thin branches of bamboo, the body is tall and slender with a dramatic fluted foot. The base is has deeply recessed inner edges, with the rounded, wagon-wheel design center in high relief. The mouth of the basket has a slightly flared lip, and the handle is comprised of several twisted bamboo branches. With bamboo insert.

Meiji period (1868-1912)

A Japanese tooled leather tobacco pouch decorated in low relief in gold and colors with shaped panels of boys at play, roosters, peonies, ducks, etc, silver peony shaped clasp; the pipe case in pressed fiber in imitation of rattan; agate ojime. Meiji period.

Antique Japanese vase decorated with scroll vine motifs around the mouth of the vase and animal like figures near the mid-section of the vase. The glaze used for this piece is emulation Jun ware which was developed in the Song Dynasty in China and in Japan, Song dynasty style glazes captivated connoisseurs and tea masters. The popularity and preferences of these glaze still continue to this day. Age: 19th-20th century. Size: Height 14" Diameter 7"

Pair small Japanese blue and white porcelain dishes. Hawthorne style decoration of prunus branches in bloom. Verso with three prunus branches. Blue underglaze mark centered within the foot rim. Fair to decent condition with a few frit like flea bites to the glaze along the rims. No cracks and no hairlines. Diameter each about 7 1/8 inches (18.1 cm)

Antique Japanese scroll painting attributed to Kano Seisei (1795-1846). The image is an arrangement of red and white flowers with kiri leaves in its center, hanging from a sudare (bamboo screen) with long tassels. Signed with red chop.

The Size of Tea Pot: 6 1/2" Long x 5 1/2" Wide x 5 1/4" High. This very unusual Japanese Porcelain Tea Pot in Sometsuke (Blue and White). It is all handpainted design of Botan (peony) with Chrysanthemum flowers as well as some relief works on flowrs. The condition of Tea Pot excellent. Please note the handle area with little tiny glaze bubbles bursted. Other than this the condition of Tea Pot excellent. There is Kamadashi ato ( kiln spots) on the bottom edge as photos showing...

This charming Japanese netsuke has the face of Noh theatre character surrounded with intricate basket weave pattern. It is signed under the chin dimensions 2.5 x 2 x 1 inch

From our Japanese Collection, a large and beautiful imari charger, Meiji Period (1868-1912), one of two similar pieces we have, of scalloped-edge form with a basket of flowers in the center medallion, and panels of prunus and karakusa in the outer border, all vibrantly executed in traditional imari palette of iron-red, blue, orange, and gilt. This is a rich and gorgeous piece with great presence.

This Meiji period Japanese netsuke is hand carved and represents a mask of Okame aka Ko-omote the young girl of the Noh theater. Material appears to be ivory.
