Pair of (1868-1912) Meiji Japanese Satsuma Vase with Geisha & Child Marked

They are 6.1 inches (15.9 cm) tall by 2.5 inches (6.3 cm) wide. They are 0.7 Lb.

One vase has been repaired at the shoulder (glued back). The other vase has rubbing of gold and paint and surface wears and scratches (as seen in the photos).

A fine Japanese hirado porcelain okimono of a recumbent horse. The horse has a whimsical expression. Its eyes are left unglazed with blackened pupils, its unglazed teeth exposed in a wide grin, the corners of the mouth and nostrils pierced through. Touches of cobalt blue underglaze accent the hooves and snout of the horse. The base is impressed with maker's cartouche.

An antique Japanese Gyosho Tansu also known as a merchant peddler's chest made entirely of Kirinoki (Paulownia) wood. Five drawers behind the hinged front door and a sixth drawer below the door. The sides have upper iron cord holding rings and cord holes at the bottom which allowed the merchant to carry this tansu on his back while transporting his wares. All original hand made iron hardware.
