The Kodaiji pattern contains repeating pattern of chrysanthemums and paulownia flowers. The pattern originates from the noted temple on the eastern hills of Kyoto which the name is derived from. Fantastic antique Japanese Kutani ware sculpture of one of the fortune deities known as Hotei. The figure is carrying a child who is trying to clean the ears of Hotei. Hotei is interestingly dressed with motifs of dragons and scrolling clouds, inspired by Chinese brocades. The different symbols used on the figure are associated with the auspicious character of the deity. Age: Taisho Period c1912 Size: Length 5" Width 4" Height 10.5"

Antique Japanese pair of silver shokudai or candlesticks Made of repousse silver with motifs of scrolling vines and chrysanthemums. The base and top of each candle stick is lobed in a lotus pod form with scalloped edges.

An antique Japanese Byobu screen in 2 panels depicting a Cherry Blossom tree with Bamboo and a full moon on a spring evening. Artist signed and painted in a Sumi-e technique over Gofun paper, he has sprinklings of gold specks to give the illusion of the last tidbits of sunlight fading into an evening moon. The frame was finished in a Negoro Urushi lacquer.

An exquisitely detailed 5" silver wired scenic cabinet vase decorated with four panels, each representing a different bird - a white egret in a stream, a sparrow and bamboo, a hawk perched on a pine tree, and a finch on a flowering branch. Highly polished, the workmanship is exceptional. The throat and base are gilded, the rims silver. It is marked on the bottom rim within a reserve "SILVER". Condition: Excellent, with no chips, hairlines or repairs.

An impressive Kuro Raku Chawan made by the legendary 12th generation Kichizaemon Kônyû (1857-1932). The name of the Chawan is „Akebono“ - Sunrise.

His childhood name was Kozaburo, later became Kicho (or, Yoshinaga). He was the eldest son of Keinyu, the eleventh generation master. This is one of the more intriguing lacquer objects we have owned. Adorned with maki-e Aoe (hollyhock) Ka-mon on nashiji ground (also known as the Kamo Aoi as it was sacred to the Kamo shrine), family crest for prominent daimyo families including the Tokugawa and the Matsudaira during the Momoyama and Edo periods. Even the drawer pull is fashioned as an open worked shibuichi Aoe Ka-mon with the surprise of a textured, kinko (soft metal) raised backing only if you look for it...

An antique Japanese rare 2 section Butsudan (Buddhist Altar) hand made with elaborate Makie lacquerwork. Upper section has two large hinged doors decorated with a blooming Peony tree. The interior of the doors each feature a Buddhist diety, one holding a mushroom scepter with a Baku at his feet and the other studying a horizontal scroll with a Shishi (Foo dog) at his feet. Below the doors are three small drawers where Buddhist accoutrements were stored...
