This is a great example Meiji Era satsuma. It is probably my favorite piece from Shizan. The colors are rich and the detail is fantastic. It stands 4 3/4 inches tall. This Ewer is in nearly perfect condition.

Japanese Mother of Pearl and Bone inlaid Lacquer Panel of Tea Ceremony picture on black Lacquer wooden panel, Ca. Meiji period, 1880's, 26" high, 16 1/4" wide, 3/4" depth, two(2) ladies preparing traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony, silver geometric design border on black Lacquered panel inside black lacquered frame. There are some very small lacquer losses around the frame, shows very thin separation on wood panel in the back, but does not show in front, stains on the lady's hair.

Unusual 19th century metal and wood netsuke of giboshi - a bridge post finial. Beautiful simple object in Japanese taste, perfectly elegant, in excellent condition. Rare subject, beautiful wear and patina. Height 1 9/16 inches.

19th century Satsuma vase of classic shape with painted enamel decoration of the Buddha surrounded by 7 rakan (original disciples), several female disciples and a boy attendant, with buildings, clouds and lotus flowers in the background. The Buddha is protected by a relief gold enameled dragon encircling the vase in its upper part. Japanese satsuma Earthenware Vase, signed "Kinzan" on the bottom in gold in the black background, Ca. Meiji period, 1880's, 6 1/4" high, 3 1/8" wide-widest part, with brilliant gold accent on finely overglaze hand painted figures under the Pink Flowering trees around the entire vase. Gold diaper design in black on the neck and repeated wide leaf pattern border in overglaze enamel on the bottom, signed "Kinzan" in gold on the bottom. The condition is good.

Japanese Edo to Meiji period Kanto style personal wood clothing chest (isho-dansu) with a single drawer on top and hinged burlwood doors opening to three additional drawers below. The top drawer has a rectangular black iron lockplate. The burlwood doors (referred to as "kannon-biraki do") are supported by five iron hinges on each side and a horizontal iron strap with a central round lockplate to secure and lock the doors. Pair Japanese Nabeshima Porcelain Dishes with underglaze Blue Thistle with Red flowers, Ca. 1890, Meiji period, 4 5/8" diameter, 1 1/4" high, very thin crispy porcelain dishes with delicately decorated with Thistle plants, with fine exact comb high feet and double Peony floral sprays on 2 sides under the dish. One(1) dish is glued together lower area about 2 1/2" long on the wind swept Thistle decorated area. The other dish is in fine condition without any damages.

Splendid Aka Raku Chawan dating from the later Edo Period (1603-1868). It has a wonderful crazing and a very rare form. Great condition with no cracks or repairs.

The chawan comes with a good wooden box.
