Late 19th Century Japanese cloisonne bronze charger with a flock of flying cranes. Beautifully designed, it measures 12 inches in diameter. There are a few stress marks in the upper left side, please study last photograph where I have enlarged and highlighted the area through photoshop. It is not as evident in person. Wonderful Early to Mid Edo (17-18cc) Kuro Oribe Kutsugata Chawan (distorted tea bowl) for Tea Ceremony.

Clay covered with black dull glaze, of irregular form with unglazed foot ring and surrounding area. The old label on the box has the name Rinzo (林蔵) who was probably a potter or a tea master.

An antique Japanese Cha Tansu (tea chest) made entirely of Rosewood (Shitan). Beautiful configuration of sliding doors, shelves and drawers. Each display shelf has an arabesque border and the center and top shelf have a horizontal scrolling design. The top, back and sides all have floating panels and the chest has an open air design with areas for storage.

An antique pair of Japanese Fusuma doors made of Hinoki (Cypress) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. Natural Urushi lacquer frame and hand painted design of Bamboo trees on one side and Pine trees with Bamboo on the opposite side. Bamboo symbolized tenacity and perseverance while the Pine tree represented a long life making these doors auspicious and full of good luck.

A wonderful mid Edo Period (1603-1868) Hiragata Ao-Oribe Chawan with a rounded brim, made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body was trimmed with a potters knife and covered with the typical green copper oxide glaze inside and outside.

The tea bowl is in fine antique condition with no cracks or repairs and comes with a very good Japanese wooden box.

A piece of Iyo-zome cloth which was futonji (bedding). It is made of hand-spun cotton and has katazome (stencil-resist-dye) pattern. The name Iyo-zome is originated from Iyo sudare (bamboo screen) since the pattern looks like wood grain by looking through two layers of them. Stripes are dyed with two katagami (stencil paper), one is vegetable indigo and the other is natural brown dye. Two katagami are dyed by displacing them so that they make wood grain like pattern...

This is benibana-dye (Natural safflower dyeing)-shibori and katazome yosegire kimono textile of the Edo era(1800-1867). It has a few thin stains. It has a small damage in several places. However, it is in a state good The red shibori (Tie-dye)is very impressive and beautiful. The pattern on the hem is a traditional Japanese treasure and has a very auspicious design.
