Antique Japanese kannon biraki tansu of an unusual small size, made of Kiri (paulownia) wood. The front of the chest is covered in ornate iron hardware with studs. The central lock is a motif of Kiri leaves with two door pulls. The doors open to a shelved interior space with two exterior drawers below. All original condition.

Interesting and rare lifesize Japanese Demon stone mask of granite, Azuchi-Momoyama to early Edo period c. 16th.-17th. century AD.

The mask made in a heavy granite type of stone, finely sculptured as a Demons face, probably to ward off evil spirits in a temple or as a part of a funeral chamber. Far to heavy to carry for a human, but still hollowed at the back.

Antique Japanese bronze temple bell, or "bonsho", with a handle of dragon heads called a ryuzu, protrusions called "chi chi" or "nyu" to improve resonance of sound, the "tsuki-za" striking panels, and the "mei-bun" inscription of the bell's history...

Japanese russet lacquered leather zunari jingasa with riveted plating. Finely disguised as metal which is completely constructed of lightweight materials strengthened by lacquer. The interior helmet is lacquered in red. The front features a large gilt mon of the Ashikaga crest. The finial form takes shape of a chrysanthemum flower. Mounted on custom display stand.

Kho Noi kiln is one of the Si Satcharanai kilns. This kiln had been making appliances for the loyal family of Skhothai kingdom and the works are very sophisticated among the Sawanakhalok kilns. The color of celadon is very refreshing green and comparable to Chinese one. This piece is stored by a famous collector in Japan with wooden box. There are some small chips at the bottom fringe. Early 19c Chinese scholar’s carved rosewood double dragon brush rest. The dragons have wonderful facial features with turned up snouts. There is a round knob on the top between the two facing dragons to turn it easily. The bodies, feet and curling tails are wonderful. Workmanship and quality is superb, showing early original patina to the surfaces. The color is a rich reddish brown with all the shiny areas right where they should be from handling...

The reason why this bowl is so rare is the fact, that nearly all bowls of this kind of Medallion bowls are " Doucai " bowls on that the underglaze Cobalt - blue outlines of the decoration are filled with overglaze enamels. Sometimes there are also to find such bowls that do show the underglaze blue outlines only, which are for whatever reason still not filled with overglaze enamels. The decoration of such pieces somehow give an " incomplete impression"...
