This is Meiji beni-shibori silk jyuban kimono textile of the Meiji era(1868-1912). The motif is dyed in a dyer's saffron with a cherry tree. It has pole a few stain and damage. However, I do not stand out. It is very beautiful. The lining is angular momentum crimson silk. size:136cm x 123cm (53.5" x 48.4")

There are a total of eight different signs, each with a different "saying" having to do with well wishes. Each "plaque" sign has a different saying...due to the age of the calligraphy, translations have not been possible.

Each sign inlayed with MOP flakes and is 21 inches tall and roughly 4.5 inches wide. I have listed them separately, to allow for pictures of each

Antique Japanese unusually small kannon biraki (hinged doors) tansu chest made of kiri (paulownia) wood. The top portion of the chest opens to reveal a compartment with a single shelf. The bottom portion has two exterior drawers. Elaborate iron hardware is like that of a larger kannon biraki chest and includes heavy hinges and cross bracing on the doors with an ivy leaf mon (crest).

Edo Period (early 1800's)

Dimensions: 16 1/4" high x 19 1/4" wide x 10" deep.

Diameter approximately 13 cm. There is a soft chip at the rim. There are many chips at the base. In good condition.

A nice lot of three choice condition bronze rings, two of a Roman type with high shoulders and another of the early Islamic period, c. 7th.-9th. cent. AD.

With animals carved into the bezels of the early rings.

Antique Indian bronze figure of Ganesha. Seated on a lotus throne, he holds his prayer beads and ax in two of his four hands. He holds up one hand in abhaya mudra while he feeds himself sweets with the other. His mouse vahana (vehicle) looks up at him from the right side of his throne. According to legend, Ganesha was created from mud by the goddess Parvati in order to guard her while she bathed...

An ancient Egyptian Scarab, more than 2,300 years old, from the famous Mitry collection (see our Homepage). It is 7/16” long (11 mm) and made of steatite, an easy-to-carve stone that hardens when heated. Scarabs empowered life and resurrection and were often placed under mummy wrappings to protect the body and to help it resurrect. This Scarab comes in a jewelry display cup.

A JAPANESE ARITA PORCELAIN SQUARE DISH, EDO PERIOD.

An attractive Japanese Arita porcelain square dish with canted corners, decorated with an oversized sage lost in reverie by a lake. The unusual borders completely painted with figures in a landscape. Late 18th ~ early 19th century.

By repute once part of the Bigelow Collection and disposed by auction in New England a few years ago.

A superb condition larger iron key, European, Late Medieval, c. 13th.-14th. century.

The key with a doomed bow and the stem ending in a long spike. The bit with a cruciform slot. Probably a passage door key.

Condition: Extremely fine, completely intact with superficial black iron patina and fine metal beneath.

A two drawer Japanese box done in a kinji or gold background with fine paintings of pine and flowers with a family crest set in the open areas of the piece. The box has metal fittings for the drawers and a handle to carry the chest. Often lacquer works with family crests were made for dowries for high ranking samurai families. 19th century Japanese Satsuma kogo (box for incense during tea ceremony), its top decorated with bamboo stems and leaves, and the sides with various flowers and leaves, and several flowers on the inside. Good potting, very nicely painted, typical Satsuma finely crackled glaze, in great condition with appropriate age and usage signs. Signed on the bottom in gold on black with 2 characters reading HARAZAN (alternative reading is Warayama). Excellent quality painting...
