An extraordinary 18K gold and gemstone ring by H Stern in the brutalist style of the 1950s and 60s. The design ethic is evident in the jagged outlines, arching construction and jarring color juxtapositions. As with all H Stern jewelry of the period, the amethysts, peridots and hessonite garnets are of excellent quality. The gold surfaces are stippled for additional interest. This ring surpasses being mere jewelry, becoming architecture for the hand...

Based on Salvador Teran's sought-after "dancers" design, the bracelet I am presenting here was crafted in the period the renowned Mexican modernist was active by one of his contemporary Taxco maestros. Absolute minimalism, strong graphics and a sense of unencumbered, fluid motion characterize the figural overlay which dominates the shadow-box construction of the three central links...

One of my favorite female designers of Mexico's 20th c. Her jewelry can be massive and jaw-dropping but quite as easily delicate and more sophisticated...

A very fine pair of Edwardian 14K yellow gold and platinum cufflinks, the double faces set with mother-of-pearl plaques centered with cabochon emeralds. The faces faces are bordered with platinum rims engraved in a reeded design. The emeralds are very nice quality, with vivid pure green color and good clarity that contrasts nicely with the iridescence of the mother-of-pearl. The use of emeralds in cufflinks is relatively uncommon...

Maestro Damaso Gallegos was for years associated in my mind with the Mexican Deco "Christmas jewelry” tradition. This stunning pin exhibits sophisticated design and quality workmanship. The pronged mounting, composed of curled, incised decorative elements and alternating with prongs and orbs, tests as silver, probably .800 silver content. The decorative elements are applied upon a flat cast frame. The fleur de lis (flower of the lily) is a heraldic symbol of French royalty. It is still used in flags and most often in jewelry. It has a prestigious history as a symbol of kings, worn by Crusaders into battle, and an emblem of the flag of St. Joan of Arc. Today it is the symbol of the city of New Orleans and is proudly embraced in the rebuilding efforts.

This fleur de lis has an enamel center over brass and is used separately as a pin or as a watch holder. It is 1 1/4" x 1" .
