Original signed poster for the Whitney Museum showing of "For Example", a 1972 movie by Shusaku Arakawa (1936-2010), from the Mechanism of Meaning project by Arakawa and Madeline Gins. This framed poster is in excellent framed condition and is signed in pencil lower right by both artists. We also have an original mixed media painting by Arakawa available, from the early sixties. Both pieces come from the same New York estate.

Gouache on black paper, 11" by 17" (17 1/2" by 23 1/2" as framed), the subject a child-like angel in a nighttime winter landscape of fantasy, carrying a star staff, a doe like Bambi walking beside her. This was not easy to describe; best to just view the images! It is signed at lower right by artist HILDA GENTRY. I do not currently see a listing for this name, but do recall having seen something on the net about her at some time in the past...

This painting is signed but cannot be deciphered. The painting portrays the beautiful scenery of the Old Town in Warsaw (Stare Miasto)

Lithograph by artist Alvar, ed 101/120. 21 x 28". Frame Size 28 x 33".

Interesting gouache abstract painting in subtle grays and blues, signed on the reverse side of the Crescent art board "Jeannine Isaacs". The piece, measuring 9 3/4" square inside the mat opening, comes in an aluminum frame without glass. I do not see a recognized, listed artist by this name. The art probably dates to the 1970's I would suggest. Condition is excellent.

In 1976 Haku Maki did three pairs of prints in which the black and white were reversed. One set is shown here. The cement blocks were used to print the white on black, then cleaned to do black on white. These were done in such themes as Mind Wind and Cloud. These are strong sweeping images in rather large prints. The two Wind images here are typical of the type. They are all about 15" x 20" and in editions of 150.

Alexander Ney Russian American contemporary sculptor " Medium Bird" N4 Alexander Nay brown terracotta carved figure of a bird,mid 1970s incised brown clay with a hole at back for mounting to a base, base not included. The artist initialed this piece" N 4 "in his usual incised way. Size l a bit over 3.5" by 1.5" high there is a slight chip to one edge of its beak as seen in pictures. This is from a very rare group of early miniature pieces most all were initialed in this way...

The size of Painting 15 3/4" W x 19 5/8". This is another unique Oil painting done on Daler Board for Oil painting which has already with canvas surface texture as you see from our close up photo. The painting is done by Zeka Marquez back in 1980-85's when he was young man. Because, this is one of painting I have acquired in 1991. The subject of human forms painted with Red, Black and white as you can see the outlined area in the center...

A small landscape painting on canvas, (actually a very nice size for a small wall, 12" by 16", and 15" by 19" framed), signed at lower right by listed artist ANTON GUTKNECHT (1907-1988). We see a dirt road winding around the edge of a wooded area, a European village and small church seen in the far distance. Gutknecht was born in Dusseldorf and studied art in that German city, as well as Munich and Hamburg. For a time he taught at the Royal Academy in Vienna...

Oil on masonite panel painting of the desert, 12" by 9", signed in capital letters at lower left by listed southwestern artist BILL SHADDIX (1931-). The presence of the iconic saguaro cactus places the scene as east of the Colorado River, therefore in Arizona. Shaddix was born in Oklahoma during the Dust Bowl, and emigrated to California by the early 1940's with his family. A deputy sheriff in Orange County by 1956, he began to paint, and eventually turned full time to his fine art...

A large oil mixed with sand painting on canvas, signed on reverse by artist "Durrant", titled there "Rombosity" and dated there 1965. This is an unusually large work by the noted English modernist artist ROY TURNER DURRANT (1925-1998), works of whom sell with some regularity in the United Kingdom. Paint is very thickly applied and is wrinkled in some areas. The work measures an impressive 46" by 33 1/4"...

A modernistic oil thin canvas, laid on plywood, signed at lower left in Hebrew script. The subject is a still life including cup and saucer, what appears to be a pitcher, and other table top items arranged in an intentionally shallow space. The work measures 18 1/2" by 22" and is unframed. The wood panel has warped with time, causing the work to be concave. A restorer could likely remove from the wood and place it on another canvas but of course that would come at a cost...

This is from a very rare group of early miniature pieces most all were initialed in this way...

Original drawing in sanguine pencil and watercolor, 16" by 11 1/2" (25 1/2" by 18" framed), the subject traditional shoes, a ceramic pot, and textile, signed at lower right by Hopi artist S. POLELONEMA. This would have been created in the Four Corners region, the name being somewhat common among the peoples of the area in Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico particularly. An Otis Polelonema is a well known Native American artist, though I don't know if the present artist might be a relative...

Female nude figure executed in white chalk on black paper, 25" by 18 3/4", signed at lower right "Mondrus", unframed. The artist is associated with California, having been a familiar figure in the Los Angeles/Pasadena art scene for many years. He is still active as a teacher and juror of art competitions. Mondrus is Professor of Art Emeritus at Glendale Community College. His oeuvre includes oils, prints, drawings, and fresco...
