Large watercolor painting in impressionist manner, the subject an old boat, the "Virginia", stored in drydock by a coast. The work, 14" by 22 1/2" inside the innermost mat (25" by 34" framed) is signed at lower right with a signature that greatly resembles that of noted American illustrator artist JON WHITCOMB (1906-1988). Whitcomb is known for his commercial art for publication, featuring glamorous young women...
An unusual painting that could be described as an allegory of all that is southwestern: oil on canvas, 24" by 20", 30" by 26" in interesting wood frame, signed at lower right "Martin", and with further ink notation on stretcher "Navajo 1981". The artist appears to be Jean Martin, 1924-2011. Martin was born in Massachusetts and educated there in art...

Color lithograph print by the very well listed contemporary Indian artist Sakti Burman (1935-), signed in pencil at lower right and numbered 120/120 at lower left. The lithograph measures 29" by 21 1/2". Currently framed in old metal frame; due to large glass sheet, this will be rolled in a sturdy tube for safety and to shipping economy. Oil on canvas painting (18 1/2" by 15", 24" by 20" in later frame) of a canal and old buildings in Amsterdam, a church towering (possibly the medieval Oudekerk) in the distance, signed at lower right by the listed Dutch artist KEES (CORNELIS) TERLOUW (1890-1948). The scene is painted in a very impressionistic style by an artist known for his landscapes of the Netherlands in all seasons, as well as genre scenes and still life...
Oil on canvas of a clapboard cottage by a lake in spring, 18" by 24" with 3" frame, signed at lower left "J.C. FRANCES". I do not see a listing for the artist but he or she was obviously at the very least familiar with the paintings of Henry Pember Smith (1854-1907) and George W. Drew (1875-1968), who painted eerily similar scenes. This painting shows a gambrel roofed cottage with blooming pink blossomed trees and ducks----an idyllic spring idyll in New England or New York state perhaps...
This is one of the very scarce, desirable prints "Le Nid--Coree" ("The Nest--Korea") by the important French-Japanese printmaker artist PAUL JACOULET (1902-1960). In December 1941, as war exploded upon the world, the image was created by the artist as a gift for his mother, who never got to actually see it. The edition in this size/coloration is said to have been fewer than 200 examples...

An excellent oil on canvas example of the painting of Spanish artist EDUARDO PISANO (1912-1986), measuring 25" by 21" (31" by 27" in silvery attractive framing/liner). Subject is a clown or other generalized comic figure with a lute/stringed instrument. Pisano is considered a member of the "Spanish School of Paris", along with figures like Clave, Peinado, Emilio Grau Sala, Oscar Dominguez, Pedro Flores, Gines Parra and Manuel Ortiz de Zarata...

An example of the etching "Signorum Veterum Icones", published 1668, after the artist's own drawings and those of other artists of the time who studied the classical statuary of the ancient world, with initials of the artist, JAN DE BISSCHOP (1628-1671) (also known as JOHANNES ESCOPIUS)...
This is a large work of art in delicate condition, 26" by 54" and 3" wide frame, so, I am seeking a local (Southern California) buyer who can pick it up. The painting, of a tropical coast with palms, decorative boats, and numerous figures, is well painted in an impressionistic manner, and is signed "M. H. Liu" at lower right in red and dated there 1967. A search of this name has not produced any listings. The painting is equivalent in style and quality to works by Indonesian important artists...

Around 1960 Haku Maki probably did the Ox as a woodblock print. He was then a young artist in Tokyo. He may have done some Ox images before James Michener did his now wellknown book, but probably not many: 510 were used in the book The Modern Japanese Print". The prints of Japanese artists included in the book are large-ish, it is not embossed. The print is in excellent shape--it is still tipped onto the original archival backing that was in the book.
In 1999 toward the end of his life, Ma...
