Max Kassler, American 1905–1992 was an abstract Artist known for some of the most unusual experimental work based on the human figure He was an early student of the Picasso school of painting. This work culminated his idea of abstraction in space. This is part of the collection we have at the gallery. Automatic drawing was pioneered by the English artist Austin Osman Spare who wrote a chapter, Automatic Drawing as a Means to Art, in his book, The Book of Pleasure (1913)...

Marrani". I do not see a listing for this talented artist. The painting has foxing in the background but it is widely and evenly dispersed and is not obtrusive...

The feathery trees, color scheme and general handling are in the tradition of the Hudson River School of the eastern states, but these scenes may in fact have been painted in California. The artist was born in Wells, Vermont, and crossed the continent at great effort in 1868, arriving in San Jose, California to begin a new life...

This is an original hand signed etching by American artist Isac Friedlander. The title of this work is "Aftermath" alt. "Outcasts", this etching was created and printed in 1944. This etching was created in an edition of 30 signed proofs, this one is inscribed as "Trial Proof #2", the image measures 14X11 inches, printed on a medium weight wove type paper. A beautifully painted watercolor titled on reverse backing "After the Storm/Point Vicente" painted in 1998 by the noted California illustrator artist BOB DOUGHTY (1924-2011). The subject is the lighthouse at Point Vicente not far from Long Beach and the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The 13" by 20" watercolor " (22 1/4" by 29" framed, behind Plexi) is in excellent, fresh condition, the colors vivid, though the mat should be replaced with a fresh one...

Old American watercolor painting, early 1900's, featuring a leafless tree in what is apparently late autumn, a flash of color in the middle distance giving an indication that winter has not completely arrived. The work appears unsigned. Measurements are 15 1/4" by 10" and 18 1/4" by 12 1/2" in the old frame, which shows wear. The watercolor itself has survived the decades in good condition.

A large oil on canvas (26 1/2" by 38 1/2", and 32 1/2" by 44 1/4" framed) painting of a forest of evergreen and birch near a picturesque winding creek, likely in eastern Europe, signed at lower left somewhat indecipherably (probably a listed artist). Oil on canvas, somewhat spontaneous and sketchy image of a formally dressed couple at a social event, circa "fin de siecle", 14" by 10 3/4" (20" by 17" as framed), signed at lower right with the distinctive signature of French early to mid century artist YVES DIEY (1892-1984). Diey is well known in France particularly, where his pastels and oil paintings of nude, or semi-clothed attractive women, sometimes in exotic settings, make frequent appearances at public auction...

One of dozens of drawings by this artist that I recently acquired, (ask to see others, not shown in my shop) not many with any color, this is a fine image in soft pencil and a little color crayon on paper, the drawing itself 12" by 18 3/4", in an oak frame without mat, signed at lower left by California and Massachusetts listed artist DAISY MARGUERITE HUGHES (1882-1968). Hughes was born and died in Los Angeles but in between she spent much time in the Provincetown art colony on Cape Cod...

French Artist Constant Louche 1880-1965 , known for depicting a North African scenes, this work is possibly Morocco, oil on canvas measuring 26” x 57”, framed in a custom frame carved with Arabic script. Born in Algiers, it was in this city that he began his studies, then in Paris, at the École des Beaux-Arts. He exhibited in Algiers from 1907. He is one of the best representatives of landscape painters from Algeria. He travels throughout Algeria but also in Morocco and Tunisia.

A well done miniature portrait painting on natural organic material, with the sitter being Bishop William White. This piece was done based on the original work painted in enamel on copper by William Birch in 1830. This example kept very true to the original.

The painting is in excellent condition, as is its original velvet travel case, although the photo is not of the highest quality. Sight size is 1 3/8" by 1 1/8".
