This a superbly Carved Crucifix was made from Walnut, both cross and corpus. Walnut is used on large sculptures such as this one, because it does not brake while the artisan is working it, and because it lasts a very long time. This large cross features a detailed hand carved sculpture of Jesus nailed on a wooden cross with forged iron-styled nails over his hands and feet. The large sculpture is well-proportioned and has realistic details throughout the body, face, and hair...

For the collector of rare, and desirable early Florida art: a watercolor painting titled in pencil lower left "Old Spanish House/St. Augustine", dated 1881, apparently not signed. The work, paper laid on a board, measures 9 3/4" by 13 3/4". An early 20th century 13 1/2" by 17 1/2" frame (not shown) accompanies the watercolor. On the reverse side of the board in modern times someone wrote "Attributed to William Turner Dannat" but this is highly unlikely...

Garrett was born in Albany, New York at mid century, and died near Boston at the end of the 1920's...

Unframed oil on canvas, 54" by 35", unsigned, the work an antique (likely 18th century, possibly earlier?) copy of the great TITIAN (TIZIANO VECELLI, c.1488-1576) altarpiece "Assassination of Saint Peter Martyr", 1528-1529, of the church of SS Giovanni e Paolo, Venice, destroyed in the 19th Century. A 1691 copy by Johann Carl Loth now hangs in its place. This truly antique survivor shows its advanced age...

In 1942 he joined Yale School of the Fine Arts but left to join the Army where he served in Europe and was awarded 4 battle stars, the Purple Heart and the combat infantry badge. He reentered Yale in 1946, studied with Whilhem de Kooning and Josef Albers...

A mourning portrait miniature by Elizabeth (Eliza) Goodridge. The work, painted in watercolor on natural wafer, is a depiction of a young boy's head issuing from a cloud beneath. Presented in a period, and probably original, case with a glazed, but empty, aperture on the reverse.

The condition is excellent, with no flaws, as is that of the case. The overall size is 2 1/2" by 2 1/16".

This is a very attractive impressionist work, 18" by 23 3/4" (24" by 29" as framed), unsigned, the subject a line of trees, fading sunlight filtering through them, all in a green and brown palette that seems very Arts and Crafts in feeling. I think the work was likely executed in the 1940's or thereabouts. The stretcher is new, and I am trying to decide if the painting has been lined on a newer canvas...

After an original painting by the famed Surrealist Belgian-born master artist Rene Magritte (1898-1967), is this print, 1970's, titled "L'Ile au Tresor" ("Treasure Island"), numbered in margin at lower left 199/200 and pencil signed there by Georgette Magritte (1901-1986), the artist's wife of many years; stamped ink Magritte signature at lower right...

Oil on canvas unframed painting of two chairs and a glass-topped table on a peaceful terrace overlooking an extensive landscape, likely California, 16" by 20", unsigned. The artist is anonymous but his/her work is quite skilled and pleasing. The impressionistic handling of this scene makes for a most decorative and appealing painting. The regular size should make framing easy and inexpensive.
