This splendid oil on board renders a charming cape cod house overlooking the ocean. There is a road passing to its front. It is all too serene and peaceful. Given the calmness of the waves, speculate that the ocean is the Pacific. It is signed E Harkins in the lower left. Its simplicity and unpretentiousness reminds me of Edward Hopper's or Andrew Wyeth's work...

Size: 22.5 inches x 14 inches. Titled "The Voyage Of A Surching Heart." Lolo Sarnoff was a noted sculptor, collector and patron of the arts. At the end of her life she had a home in Barnard, Vermont, and she created this piece for the current owner.

Watercolor on paper extensive landscape with sheep lounging peacefully around a mature tree in full spring bloom, 13" by 26" (23" by 35" as framed), signed at lower right by noted American artist CARL PHILLIP WEBER (1850-1921). The subject matter is rather typical of the artist's work. Weber was from the Philadelphia area and often painted rural, bucolic local landscapes in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Sheep are often found in his compositions and this painting certainly includes them...

Original oil on canvas by Dorothy Eaton (American/ 1893-1968), signed l.l. "Dorothy Eaton" and dated 1957 on the back. This painting measures 25" by 30". It is in excellent untouched original condition, and is offered in a newer gallery frame. Dorothy Eaton is very well listed, with auction records over ten thousand dollars. She studied at the ASL with Kenneth Hayes Miller. Some of her works are exhibited in the Smith College Museum of Art in Northampton, MA.

A rarely seen print, featuring the familiar, landmark high bridge over the Arroyo Seco in Pasadena, California, by the well-known California plein air impressionist artist BENJAMIN CHAMBERS BROWN (1865-1942). The lithograph is in rich brown ink on watermarked paper (an "A" with eagle). Aquatint on paper 20" by 14" (32" by 24 1/2" in tasteful framing, with quality materials), signed in pencil at lower right corner within the image, the subject a lady intensely examining a print from a bulging portfolio in a studio, other works visible in other portfolios and hanging on the wall. Title I believe is "Dans l'Atelier". The colors are somber and elegant. Robbe was a major French printmaker late in the 19th and early in the 20th century...

Early 20th century Dutch harbor scene by Gerard Wiegman (1875-1964). The painting depicts a large cargo ship moored at harbor and surrounded by a variety of smaller ships, fishing boats and tugs. The sky is painted in moody shades of grays that echo the colors of the dark smoke rising from the other large ships in the background. This choice of coloring suggests the obvious industrial nature of this unidentified harbor...

An oil on canvas painting of a classic old sailing ship on the ocean off the coast, (possibly the Southern California coast around San Diego----think Richard Henry Dana's 1840 book "Two Years Before the Mast"). The painting measures"14" by 18" (19" by 22 1/2" in attractive probably original circa 1920 frame with very interesting eucalyptus leaf design), and is signed at lower right by the noted California painter ANGEL ESPOY (1879-1963)...

Contemporary pencil and watercolor drawing in simple metal gold framing, the subject two women apparently dancing in a late 19th century cafe, the drawing 8 1/2" by 5 1/4" inside the mat (the entire sheet significantly larger, at 11 3/4" by 8 1/4"), signed at lower right "Dan" or "Han" or similar. The scene reminds of George Grosz' 1920's drawings of Berlin cafe goers, or even Toulouse Lautrec's Parisian cafe's. The drawing is nicely crafted.

Tinted photo of the famous, accessible Mendenhall Glacier outside Juneau, Alaska, titled in the image at lower left "Where Ice and Flowers Meet"/Mendenhall Glacier, Alaska/(copyright symbol) 1933 Ordway". The image measures 8 1/2" by 13 1/2", and frame is an inch wide on a side. On reverse is an old sticker from Ordway's Photo Shop, Juneau, Alaska. This came home in the luggage of a tourist, likely around 1950 (found in Connecticut)...
