ONE OF TWO DRAWINGS BY THE ARTIST IN MY SHOP---A pencil drawing of the Hell Gate railroad bridge in New York City, (so identified after research conducted on the internet), 8 7/8" by 6 3/4" (14 1/2" by 11 1/2" framed, no glass, loose in black metal frame), signed with initials "JRM" at lower left and dated there 1943. On the reverse a previous owner wrote "JOHN RICHARD MOORE 1925-2009 University High Sch arts class Co Founder Panavision Co.". This early work would date to the artist's teens...
Small painting on a medium that might be jute fibers, 12 1/4" by 12 1/4" framed, possibly signed at lower right with initials or monogram, but essentially unreadable. The piece is very "Atomic Age" 1950's style and is doubtless of that period. Unfortunately over time there has been some abuse, and scattered losses cover a large portion of the painting, as shown...
A contemporary pastel on paper work, the subject appearing to be the familiar and much-loved canals of Amsterdam in The Netherlands. Canal boats, arching bridge and a church tower in the distance complete the scene. The work measures 9 1/2" by 12 1/2" (13 1/4' by 15 3/4" in simple frame, behind glass---no mat). There is no signature but the artist was able to handle a piece of chalk. The work demonstrates fine handling of the light and reflections...
Engraving "The natives of Otaheite Attacking Capt Wallis" C1780 . Copper plate London 1780 engraving size 8" by 6.75"
A small nicely worked watercolor painting of a sun-washed plaza in a Greek town, a man leading a mule in the foreground. Measurements are 7" by 4" (drawing itself) and 13" by 10" framed. The artist signed in red at lower right, presumably in Greek. Condition is excellent.
**One of a number of Venice works in my shop** Watercolor painting of a classic Venetian view including canal gondola and the famous church in the background, 4 1/2" by 7 1/2" (10" by 13 1/4" as framed without glass), signed at lower right corner "G. Romanello". This is a twentieth century work, perhaps from the 1950's, or, possibly, earlier. I do not see a listing for the name...
Watercolor painting of some age, 13" by 10 1/2" (22" by 18" framed), the subject simply a tree, but, that subject is handled very beautifully, and the work is signed at lower right by artist Paula Day (on whom I find no information). The interpretation of light and color belies the hand of a talented artist. Judging from the framing materials this dates no later than the mid 1960's and likely earlier. I recommend a new mat only; the frame can be retained.
A watercolor on paper 10 1/2" by 21 1/4" (21" by 33" in blue laminate framing) featuring a tropical dock scene replete with coconut palms, a small sailing craft, and boathouse, signed at lower right with what appears as "Ehrlich". I have not been able to link an obvious listed artist name to this work. The hand is sure and talented and the piece is in excellent fresh condition.
A pleasant pastel on paper drawing of pink roses, signed at lower right by artist Lora King and dated there '39. On the reverse backing paper the name "Lora King Arnold" is written, and again "Lora Arnold" and original $100.00 price appears. There seems to be minimal information available on the artist (online I did see a 1923-1960 lifespan that may or may not be accurate). The work measures 11 1/4" by 15" (17 1/2" by 21 1/2" in original framing)...

"William Hogarth" The Indian Emperor, or, the Conquest of Mexico Painted by William Hogarth, engraved by Robert Dodd. The Works of William Hogarth" as published by Baldwin, Cradock and Joy in 1822 with the original plates restored by James Heath, engraver to His Majesty. The Heath edition was the last to print directly from Hogarth's original engraved plates. All William Hogarth prints appearing after this date are copies of these original graphic works of art...
A circa 1940's restrike print of the popular ice skating scene from "American Winter Scenes" series, measuring 17" by 23 3/4" inside the mat and 23 3/4" by 30 1/2" framed. The title was evidently cut off from central bottom portion at one point and was then affixed to reverse side. Coloring is in the print most likely and not hand coloring. Retains old brown framer's label of "The Brown Shop", a mid-century Pasadena, California art and frame shop...
A circa 1840 engraving of the famous column in the Place Vendome, central Paris, titled "Colonne de la Place Vendome", with "Rouargue freres del & sc" at lower left. The print measures 6 3/4" by 4 1/4" inside the mat and the work as framed measures 11 1/4" by 8 3/4". There are two Rouargue brothers; one, Adolphe (1810-c.1870) and Emile (c.1795-1865)...

A small etching of a bearded, religious Jewish man, a title at bottom of the image in Hebrew characters translating approximately as "to good year you shall be written"---for Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year. The print is pencil signed at lower right by the noted, well-listed American artist LEONARD BASKIN (1922-2000). Baskin was born in New Jersey and educated at Yale, where he founded a small fine books press. This early experience with fine printing no doubt contributed to his later exper...
Old mountain and canyon landscape with foreground water and fog in the trees, 22 1/2" by 12 3/4" framed, unsigned, painted on old gray art board. The work likely dates to about the first quarter of the 20th century or possibly last years of the 19th. The vertical format would complement a narrow small wall. Old gold frame has some chip losses especially at corners. The whitish clouds in the sky might exhibit some definite paint wear; but to the degree that this almost blends into the clouds,...
A small watercolor and ink drawing of the famous old Brulatour courtyard, 520 Royal Street in the New Orleans Vieux Carre (French Quarter), signed at lower right and dated there '51 (and titled/signed/dated again on the reverse backing) by New Orleans artist E. ALVA EDWARDS. Internet research suggests but cannot confirm that this be a work by one EDWIN ALVA EDWARDS JR. (1914-1988) of the Baton Rouge area. The clean piece measures 9 1/2" by 7 1/2" as framed. There does not appear to be an arti...
Pastel on paper work, the subject a wintry tree and split rail fence in a snowy landscape, a distant house with smoke from a chimney suggestive of a snug refuge from the cold. The work is signed at lower left "E Taylor". Most likely, the date of execution is within ten years of the turn of the century. Condition is excellent. Measurements are 12" by 17 3/4" inside the mat and 21 1/2"by 26" in silvery modern framing with gold tint (some wear noted especially at bottom). Note that all photos ...
