Original signed poster for the Whitney Museum showing of "For Example", a 1972 movie by Shusaku Arakawa (1936-2010), from the Mechanism of Meaning project by Arakawa and Madeline Gins. This framed poster is in excellent framed condition and is signed in pencil lower right by both artists. We also have an original mixed media painting by Arakawa available, from the early sixties. Both pieces come from the same New York estate.

Late 19th century painting of the Roman Colosseum, an historical arch and surrounding gardens and park, signed at lower left "Conti". The piece, which measures 6 1/2" by 4 1/4" inside the mat, and 13 3/4" by 11 3/4" as framed in polished, shiny reddish-brown wood, displays exceptionally fine detail despite its small size. The colors are sharp and fresh and the paper not oxidized...

Oil on canvas of a clapboard cottage by a lake in spring, 18" by 24" with 3" frame, signed at lower left "J.C. FRANCES". I do not see a listing for the artist but he or she was obviously at the very least familiar with the paintings of Henry Pember Smith (1854-1907) and George W. Drew (1875-1968), who painted eerily similar scenes. This painting shows a gambrel roofed cottage with blooming pink blossomed trees and ducks----an idyllic spring idyll in New England or New York state perhaps...

Etching, 4 3/4" by 6 5/8" inside the mat, 10" by 12 1/2" in simple black strip frame, titled in pencil at left margin "A Bermuda Lane" and signed in margin in pencil at lower right by artist RAY ALLEN. I do not see a listing for an artist of this name. The work likely dates to about the 1950's I would think, and is probably still in its original frame. The impression is strong, with a distinct plate mark. Disregard false yellow colors in some of the photos, which are an effect of the camera...

This is a really pretty watercolor on heavy watercolor paper by an obvious talent, 14" by 20" (22 1/2" by 28 1/4" as framed), the subject picturesque boats tied up along the banks of an idyllic stretch of river, a boathouse at left and a few figures completing the impressionist composition. The work's varieties of impressionistic blues are quite lovely, and there is simply excellent handling of color and light. The only fault, really, is that the artist did not sign the piece...

From our Fine Arts and Americana Collection, a fine pastel still life painting of a flower vase by Luis Bodes of Alhambra Spain. Executed in pretty blues, lime green, orange, grey and white, this is an elegant little painting that we had richly framed as we feel it befits the piece. PAIR of oils on canvas, each 12 1/2" by 16", framed to 18 3/4" by 22" (although the frames are not quite identical), each signed by the listed French artist of Brittany, PIERRE TESTU. The scenes are quite charming, with atmospheric handling of the moist and foggy coastal air. Testu's biography is not established, it seems, but there are extant works dated as early as 1896 from what I can see, and he evidently specialized in such genre scenes of mussel, oyster, and other shellfish gatherers on ...
