The artist is GUI IGNON (1897-1963), not widely known today but a man who led a very interesting life and brushed elbows with the famous and intellectuals. Ignon was born in Caen, in Normandy, France...

Oil on canvas, 18" by 22" (23 1/2" by 27 1/2" as framed), the subject the famous Paris opera house and the Cafe de la Paix at left, executed in the naive style of painters like Emile Blondel, Leon-Alphonse Quizet, and so forth, apparently unsigned, though the word "Lancel" on an awning could possibly be the artist's name. The painting dates to the post war period, likely the 1950's or early 1960's at latest, considering the style of the autos in the scene...

He started a career in engineering but in his early twenties he decided to become an artist. He moved to Arles in Provence where he bought a studio and began zealously painting the inspirational. Etching, 4 3/4" by 6 5/8" inside the mat, 10" by 12 1/2" in simple black strip frame, titled in pencil at left margin "A Bermuda Lane" and signed in margin in pencil at lower right by artist RAY ALLEN. I do not see a listing for an artist of this name. The work likely dates to about the 1950's I would think, and is probably still in its original frame. The impression is strong, with a distinct plate mark. Disregard false yellow colors in some of the photos, which are an effect of the camera...

Antique Japanese woodblock print by Hasui Kawase (1883-1957) entitled Snow at Ginkakuji Temple. Snow falls quietly on a two story building. The rocks and trees around the pond are capped with snow and figures stroll by with umbrellas.

The artist, Hasui Kawase is considered one of the major landscape artists of Japan. He was born the son of a silk merchant and studied both Japanese and Western style painting. He showed at the Tatsumi Exhibition of Painting at the age of 19...

For the last four years, I have researched every aspect of this self-portrait to confirm its artist identity!! Today, I can confirm the artist of this self-portrait, it is ROY FOX LICHTENSTEIN!! I was able to match the 1956 signature to the “rather primitive notion of patterned linear repetition”, or unknown markings (which look like Hebrew) on the side of an airplane in the RFL’s drawing “AIRPLANE 1961”. A large unframed oil, 34" by 46", unsigned, a vintage mid-century work ***AFTER*** a DEAN CORNWELL (1892-1960) painting which was executed in 1953 for a New York Life Insurance Co. calendar, in commemoration of the 300th anniversary of the incorporation of New York City.
