Jean Jacques Henner, French, 1829-1905. This dreamy beautiful painting is oil on canvas, signed lower left is 15 7/8" by 24 1/8" in a beautifl period frame (24 3/8" by 32 7/8"). It is in good condition and has been lined long ago. There is an old tag on the upper back with the name in French and a price of $27,500. He is listed in Benezit and his paintings sell for up to $75,000.

A c1840 portrait, attributed to Richard Morrell Staigg, of a handsome older gentleman with a stately presence. Shown in a 2 3/8" by 2" gilt metal case with a glazed aperture in the reverse.

Both the painting and the case are in excellent condition. The lower central section of the painting is not damaged, but was intentionally painted that way, possibly to indicate that the sitter has passed away...

This is a mid 19th century painting of a young girl in a beautiful landscape setting. It is painted on academy board which measures 10 1/2" x 12 1/2" and is mounted in a beautiful carved frame which appears to be original to the painting. The frame measures 18" x 16". This could be a early American folk art portrait depicting a memorial to the young lady. She is holding in her hand some grapes on a vine and this is a symbol of Christian redemption...

Unsigned oil on paper laid on cardboard depicting the harbor with people in the foreground, the buildings on the right and the breakwater in the middle ground and the harbor with a ship and the far arm of land in the distance. Scenes of Naples painted either in gouche or oil were done throughout the 19th century with views of Vesuvius erupting being particularly popular. Henri Duvieux, French, 1855-1882. This small jewel is a very fine example of Duvieux' work. The painting is 6" by 8" in a 4" 19th C Frame. It is in good condition and is signed lower right. Duvieux was known for his atmospheric paintings of Istanbul and Venice and often painted pairs of painting often dawn and dusk. His paintings sell for up to 25,000.

An extremely fine miniature portrait by John Henry Brown, done in watercolors on natural material. One of the best examples of his skill, showing an attractive woman, beautifully painted. Adding to the importance of this piece is that Brown used a trompe l'oeil technique in painting what appears to be matting around the portrait. This is a Beautiful mid 19th century portrait of a lady from Natchez, MS. Notice the detail of the portrait and the hand painted wall paper. 30" x 25" and it is mounted in its original frame. Canvas on verso stamped L.Frank - - Boston. The painting came from a private collection in Beaufort, SC. We believe this painting is done by James Reid Lambdin.

A charming antique oil on canvas of a young girl cozied up in a doghouse with a snoozing bull mastiff dog, signed (incised in the paint) and dated 79 (1879). The signature is JH SHARP in capital letters. For a number of years there has been confusion as to whether these 19th century dog paintings of this period were by the noted Taos, New Mexico artist Joseph Henry Sharp (1859-1953), as the signatures are very similar indeed, and the artist did study in Europe before coming to America...

A very nice 19th century Mexican tin retablo illustrating “El Nino de Atocha”. According to tradition, Christ appeared in the guise of a small child to feed the hungry Christian prisoners of the town of Atocha during the Moorish invasion of Spain. Of terracotta or earthenware, this lovely sculpture depicts a pug dog lying down, has glass eyes and a red collar. Painted surface over tan body. With big jowls and black ears, he is quite endearing, and is in good condition for its age.
