French Canal Scene by Fr. Dolreux 1890-1974, Framed Oil on Canvas. 20 x 24". The artist trained in France by his uncle Henri-Aime Duheim (1860-1941) and later traveled to Italy to study art. He showed Art mainly in the south of France.

China Trade painting - "Coastal Village Scene With Anchored Junk". Oil on canvas. Circa: late 19th C. Size: 17 3/4 inches x 23 1/2 inches. Unsigned. A painting from the China Trade school depicting modest homes along a coastal estuary, together with the local inhabitants and a 'junk' at anchor. Offered in a black and gold wood frame and retaining a Quester Gallery label, Stonington, CT. Professionally restored and relined on a new stretcher.

A nice c1814 example of a Frederick Buck miniature of a woman in a blue dress. The backing of the mini has "Caroline ??? 1814". Presented in what might be the original frame, which measures 4 3/4" by 4 1/8". The sight size is 2 3/4" by 2 1/8". Excellent condition.

A large unframed oil, 34" by 46", unsigned, a vintage mid-century work ***AFTER*** a DEAN CORNWELL (1892-1960) painting which was executed in 1953 for a New York Life Insurance Co. calendar, in commemoration of the 300th anniversary of the incorporation of New York City. The painting is meticulously painted and I contacted auctions dealing with illustration art to see if it might be a study for the finished work...

Original woodblock print in black and light red, 11 5/8" by 8 1/2" (18 1/2" by 15 5/8" as framed), inscribed at lower left in pencil "artist proof" and "Serisawa", and stamped just below that with the circular red seal of the artist, and "To Wally" written at right. This is an example of the graphic work of the American-Japanese artist SUEO SERISAWA (1910-2004). Serisawa is considered to be one of the principal figures in California modernism...

The study photo on the left is a close up of Mr. John White Field,a Philadelphia Merchant, which was painted by John Singer Sargent in the early 1880's. Created in the 1980s, Haku Maki did a series of rarely seen prints called Drop. They seemed to depict oil dropped onto the surface of water. Drop 7 is one of those prints. It is no. 32 of 203 and it measures 9.75in W x 11in H. As with many old prints, it has tape residue on the four edges of the back from a previous framing but there is no impact on the face of the print.

This little lithograph (4 3/4" by 6", 10 1/2" by 11" framed) is titled at bottom "Res. of Levi Davis, Jr., Esq.,/Secs. 28 and 29, Big Rock Tpl, Kane Co., Ill." It is a typical view of a prosperous new homestead in the nineteenth century. Estate owners commonly commissioned local artists to create an image of the proud homes and farms springing up in 19th century America, and this is one of those images, now firmly part of Americana...

Orlando Norie (1832–1901), artist of military subjects, perhaps the most prolific painter of the British army in the 19th century along with Richard Simkin. This is a wall-ready unusually fresh and clean lithograph, hand colored, titled "Millard Fillmore/Whig Candidate for Vice President", by New York competitors to Nathaniel Currier, J. Baillie and Company. The coloring is green in the curtains and just a hint of blush on the cheeks. Size is 13" by 9" inside the double mat. There is clean double matting (rich forest green matching the curtains and inner mat is tan), and the black frame with a bit of gold inner edge...

Daniel Tretiak tells us that in 1967 Haku Maki produced an alphabet series, Poem A-Z. He did all the letters of the English alphabet. This is Poem W, a strong rendering of the hiragana for You. Tretiak says: The image has a bold white sun in the top half with two dashes of rain-like strokes. It is in wonderful condition. The print is number 23 of an edition of 50.
