The drawing measures 9" by 13 1/4" (15 3/4" by 20 3/4" framed). It is signed at lower left "G Marini". Condition is excellent. The drawing was likely created for the tourist trade in Venice in the early years of the century.

A modern (circa 1950's), unframed, oil on canvas painting of two brutish, almost centaur-like men very apparently engaging in some sort of heavy conflict and struggle, signed lower left Ignon, measuring 27" by 33". The artist is GUI IGNON (1897-1963), not widely known today but a man who led a very interesting life and brushed elbows with the famous and intellectuals. Ignon was born in Caen, in Normandy, France...

PAIR of copper engravings by the early Flemish artist JOHANNES STRADANUS (also known as Johannes van der Straet), born 1523, died 1605. Each measures 8" by 10 1/2" (16" by 18" in identical silvery contemporary frames). One image is titled "Staphae, Sive Stapedes", the other "Ser Sive Sericus Vermis". These works date to about the year 1590 or 1591. They are numbered 8 and 9, part of Nova Reperta, a series of 20 images that illustrated important discoveries of the Renaissance...

This is a signed portrait of model, girlfriend, or wife of Warren B Davis. There are two damages on the canvas on the left side and a little damage on the dress. The painting has never been cleaned and is mounted in its original frame. The painting measures 7" x 10" oil on canvas. The frame measures 12 1/2" x 15 3/8". The painting is signed in the top left corner Warren B Davis 1893.

For the Anglophile, this is a piece of classic old England, a watercolor, 10" by 14", (16 3/8" by 20" as framed), signed at lower left by artist MICHAEL VICARY, the scene a narrow riverboat barge on the Thames under the classic view of Windsor Castle outside London. A few pieces by Vicary have crossed the auction block, but the main appeal of the work lies in its fine detail and craftsmanship...

A well painted portrait miniature, on organic wafer, of a blue eyed gentleman wearing a deep blue coat, white ascot, shirt, and vest. Presented in a brass frame.

The condition is excellent, with no issues to speak of. The reddish area on the edge from 9:00 to 12:00 is due to light reflection. The painting appears much better in person than the photo shows. Framed size is 2 1/2" by 2".

African Ivory Coast Horned Mask, 8 x 16" h.

This painting measures 22"x 28". Helen LaFrance is a self-taught, modern, contemporary artist who is 99 years of age. Her earliest known painting is a 12’x20’ mural inside of a local church that was made circa the late 40's and early 50’s and she continued to paint into the early 2000's. LaFrance’s work is represented in many notable public and private collections in this country and in Europe...

Original etching with aquatint by Luigi Kasimir (Austria-Hungary, 1881-1962) depicting the harbor in Bremen, Germany, circa 1930-1940. Signed by the artist (not an estate signature). A rare original etching by an important artist. One of a number of works by this artist currently available.

Oil on canvas, 27" by 39" (32 1/2" by 44 1/2" as framed), the scene a deep blue lake with small boats and a dock, puffy clouds filling the sky on a peaceful summer day. It is an expansive scene, large enough to invite the viewer to feel he is a part of it. I suppose the work is Swedish or Danish. The artist chose to sign with just the conjoined initials "HM" at lower left, where it is also dated 1948...

In late 2011, I received several Maki prints of 1981. These all have leather-like surfaces. I thought this was a phenomenon of that year. I was wrong. Maki actually used this surface in 1971 for a few Persimmon prints and then not again until 1981. I show here copies from my Maki archives. When we filed those images a long time ago, they were not clear enough, are still not. But I think they are with that leather-like finish. Any views most gratefully received...

Oil on canvas laid on board, 21" by 34" (26" by 39" as framed), unsigned, circa 1880 I would guess, the painting consisting of a classic Hudson River view with steep hills bordering a river, a boat completing the scenery. There is a very nice luminosity to this particular example, a very nice handling of the light in the leaves of the trees. The painting has an approximately 5" long horizontal old cut in lower portion as shown, not unusual for a work of this age...
