Sometimes called the Mayor of Tyson Street, Edward "Eddie" Rosenfeld (1906-1983) was a Baltimore based artist, whose works are owned by the JMM, Baltimore Museum of Art, Phillips Collection and American University Gallery (both in Washington, DC). His artistic style has been classified as "expressionistic" and "alive with gutsy realism." Mr. Rosenfeld was called "The Mayor of Tyson Street" because he began the regentrification process in Mt. Vernon in 1945.

This is a rather unusual and visually arresting contemporary work by a Japanese or Japanese-American artist, signed at top right "Yasushi Saito" and dated there '78. An oil on canvas, unframed, measuring 23" by 19", the work is difficult to describe: a carp-like blue fish at right center appears with conical mountains that resemble Mount Fuji or desert peaks, as stunted bizarre vegetation, possibly trees, complete the visual feast...

A vintage oil on board painting of an impossibly endowed southwestern desert scene, (possibly Arizona, since the saguaro grows natively only there) signed at lower right with initials "AHS". The painting, 14" by 18" (19" by 23" including linen covered surface around the painting) likely dates to the 1960's or early 1970's...

A really well executed oil on canvas painting of a hammock of dry land in the Everglades of southern Florida, a summer cumulus cloud at right about to become a thunderhead, 18" by 24" (22" by 28" framed), circa late 1960's or early 1970's, signed at lower right by listed artist EDWARD ARTHUR EVANS (1895-). Watercolor painting of a harbor scene in New England, 12 3/4" by 18 3/4" inside the mat, 20 1/4" by 26 1/4" in silvery metal framing, signed at lower left in red "J. Stephenson" and dated there '77. This is likely a scene of Maine or Massachusetts, judging from the lobster traps at left on the dock. The artist does not seem to be listed but I have seen other similar works by this hand while traveling in New England...

For the fans of the "Big Eye" paintings, here is a pair of mid century retro style works in oil on board, each 23 1/2" by 11 1/4", and each signed at lower right. The signatures are hard to decipher; I'm guessing "Balmiani" or "Dalmiani". If I am reading them at all correctly, I am not able to tie these names to any of the listed, recognized big eye painters. Regardless of authorship, these are sure to please the devoted big eye collector...

This is a fine pencil drawing of a Victorian style wood home, 16" by 11 1/2" (24 3/4" by 18 3/4" framed), signed at lower right "David" and dated there '73. One is reminded of Edward Hopper's haunted, lonely dune houses or even the infamous back-lot Bates Motel house from the movie "Psycho" where Anthony Perkins did his thing. Condition is excellent. Found in San Francisco, the city where many treasured gingerbread houses of Victorian times still stand.

Contemporary watercolor painting of whitish or pinkish roses, executed in a soft-focus manner, signed at lower right by artist Jean Percival. I do not see a listing by this name but we're looking at a talented artist. The work measures 13 1/2" by 9 1/2" inside the double mat opening and 21" by 17 1/2" framed. Silvery frame exhibits light wear. There are reflections in some images.
