19th century, miniature French self-portrait painting of Elizabeth Vigee-Lebrun with her daughter. Lebrun caused a public scandal when her “Self-Portrait with Her Daughter Julie” was exhibited at the Salon of 1787 showing her smiling and open-mouthed (“bearing her teeth”), which was in direct contravention of traditional painting conventions going back to antiquity. Painted in wonderful realist style the colors are still vibrant having been protected from the elements all these years...

An original lithograph print, "Le Peintre et son Double" ("The Painter and his Double"), 1981, from the publication Derriere le Miroir, edition of 15000 with the original center fold, Mourlot ref. #992, by iconic Russian-French-Jewish artist MARC CHAGALL (1887-1985). The print is unsigned; measurements inside the mat are 14 1/4" by 19 3/4" (19 1/2" by 25" framed). Condition is excellent with no foxing.

An extensive landscape with picturesque castle ruins at left on a leafy Arcadian glen overlooking a lake and distant mountains, unsigned, 16" by 24" (25" by 32 1/2" in wide gold frame), presenting at first a Hudson River School appearance, but perhaps more likely by an English or Scottish artist, or by a period American artist imitating an English style and scenery. A fine American miniature portrait of a young woman with sausage curls, wearing a lace cap and fichu, with a black dress with black dots. The watercolor painting is done on natural wafer, and enclosed in a period cast bronze foliate case with a glazed aperture on the reverse.

The miniature has no chips, cracks, or bowing. The painting slipped slightly in its case when I scanned it, but this is easily adjusted. Sight size is 2 1/4" by 1 7/8", while the case size is 2 3/4" by 2 1/4".

Very large (48" by 48", unframed), decorative, attention-getting oil on canvas of a family of three musician performers in a park setting, painted in a humorous fashion, the family in costume and appearing clown-like, by the French mid century impressionist artist ROGER ETIENNE (1922-2011). A beautifully executed miniature folk art watercolor on thin card portrait by J. H. Gillespie, housed in a cast foliate metal locket with an aperture on the reverse.

The condition is excellent, with no issues whatsoever. The reverse of the case is lacking the surround and glazing to the aperture.

Note: Gillespie was active on the East Coast of North America, Baltimore, New York, and Philadelphia around the 1829-1838 time period...

A nicely executed miniature portrait painted on organic wafer by Thomas Hull. The sitter is a blue-eyed gent in a blue coat, frilled chemise, and white waistcoat. Presented in a gilt metal frame with a collection label on the reverse.

The condition of the painting and the frame are excellent, with no issues. The dark areas at the edges of the painting are due to light refraction in the photos and do not appear in person. The overall size is 2 3/16" by 1 3/4".

An incredibly charming portrait miniature brooch of a young child, painted on natural material. The subject is beautiful, wearing a coral necklace and a pale lavender gown, and with brown eyes that were so finely and realistically painted with such depth that it is almost hard to believe when seeing this gem in person.

The condition is excellent, with no issues, and the overall size is 1 3/8" by 1".

Ross Shattuck painting on art board of 2 cloaked figures walking up a hilly desert street, with original frame some minor scuffs.
