This is a fantastic oil on Masonite painting of Columbus landing at the Indian Islands. This painting is signed and dated 1921 by artist Frank Herbert Zeitler of Germany. Zeitler was born in Germany in 1874 and died in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 30, 1940. An impressionist still life of vase and flowers on a table top in an interior, 23 1/2" by 17 1/2" (29" by 22 3/4" framed), signed at lower right by artist HAIG ALTOUN and dated there 1940. The work is beautifully executed by a trained hand but strangely I do not see a listing for an artist by this name, which is of Armenian extraction. Condition is excellent.

This work is signed in pencil by the artist at the lower right, and is dated there 1983. Despite my best efforts I am unable to read the signature, which looks something like "Christylu Walsh", but this is a wild guess...

I believe this would be a female figure with short hair. She is drawn skillfully in pencil, and finished out with a gray-green watercolor wash. There is a South Bend, Indiana framer's label that likely dates to the 1960's...
