Watercolor on paper painting of the famous belfry towers and facade of the St. Louis Cathedral on Jackson Square in New Orleans, Louisiana, possibly signed at lower right (illegible), 10 1/4" by 7 1/2" inside the mat, 16" by 10" framed, circa 1960's or 1970's I believe. The work is framed in an old, beveled dark oak quality frame that likely considerably pre-dates the art. When framed, someone wrote the title "St. Louis Cathedral, New Orleans" on the mat below the image...

This is a nicely executed work and it is in excellent, fresh condition with no foxing nor water staining. Benson was born in the Los Angeles area and died in Washington state, but there is limited biographical information on him...

A pleasing, good-sized oil on canvas rural, early spring landscape of Scandinavia, perhaps Denmark, or Sweden, signed at lower right by artist "Scharberg". The poetic scene includes one small structure at left; white and pink blossoms are starting to appear on the trees.. The work likely dates to the 1960's or early 1970's, judging from the present framing and materials used. Condition is excellent, the painting clean, with just a small amount of crazing...

A wonderful, color-filled painting from Haiti, the subject a tropical village and its various ingredients.....pigs, chickens, and close to FORTY colorfully-clad figures going about their daily lives. (I get a different number every time I count). The painting is signed at lower right "Rodrigue M" and dated 18-12-1971. The artist is RODRIGUE MERVILUS (1947-), born in St. Marc, Haiti. He showed early talent as an artist in the Haitian folk art style. Works have sold at auction...

The work is painted on board and measures 15 1/2" by 19 1/2" (19" by 23" framed in wood with gold leaf inner portion). Saturne was born in Petionville, a Port-au-Prince suburb. He attended the now-famous Centre d'Art in 1956 when the Haitian art movement as we know it today was just beginning to come together...

In the foreground is a small body of water providing a deep blue color to set off the yellow. The work is signed at lower left "J. Van Sant". I have been unable to locate a known artist by this name...

This would appear to be from Ecuador, or if not there, another Andean nation such as Peru or Bolivia. Measurements are 4" by 3 1/2" (7 1/2" by 7 1/4" as framed, with blue velvet liner). An interesting addition to a small wall or nook.

Considering the architecture, landscape, and black-appearing tiny figures, I would lean towards the work being of perhaps northeast Brazilian origin, (Natal or Salvador area).

An oil on board painting, (19" by 16", and 27" by 23" framed), of a French landscape, by the French mid century impressionist artist ROGER ETIENNE (1922-2011). The painting is signed at lower left by the artist and dated there 1975, and at lower right he wrote a dedication to previous owners "Pour Balli & John". The scene, an avenue leading into a small town or village, is at once impressionist and also Expressionist, with strong brush strokes especially in sky, and some points of bright color. ...
