Fine German Oil Portrait Circa 1880 Measuring 12x10” Done in Bavaria unsigned in a gold leaf frame measuring 17x16” work is signed lower left
A vintage, circa 1940 lithograph print of a man's head, pencil signed at lower right margin "Barsick" and "imp." appears in pencil at lower center (meaning, artist printed it himself/herself). I do not see an obvious listed artist with which this signature might correspond. The piece measures 13 1/4" by 10 1/4" inside the mat and 17 1/2" by 14 3/4" in simple black strip frame. There is significant heavy foxing in the margins which could be minimized with new mat...
Black ink on paper drawing, 13 1/4" by 10 1/4" inside the mat, (21" by 17 1/2" as framed), signed at lower left in the typical manner, and dated there 1976, by the noted Mexican modern contemporary artist LEONARDO M. NIERMAN (1932-). This is an early self portrait of the then-40 something artist. There are a number of extant self portrait drawings from that period. Now well known and internationally collected, Nierman has been a prolific artist...
A striking, traditional, antique, oil on old oak panel painting, with even an Old Master feel, the painting itself 13 1/4" by 15 3/4" (34.3 cm. by 41.3 cm), the scene a landscape dominated by a placid large white dray-type horse (painted with extraordinary sensitivity and skill), a goat at left foreground, and resting cattle in the distance, the remainder of the composition dominated by a sky filled with beautiful clouds, and classic willow trees at right...
This is a medium folio size (lithograph 12 5/8" by 15 1/2" inside the mat, the sheet " by ", and as framed 20" by 22 1/2") by famous American printmakers Currier and Ives. Judging from internet offerings of the image by major print dealers around the nation, the print is a popular one, although it is not among the so-called "Best 50". Note the horses, the ducks and pigeons, the turnips, and the hogs at left. All in all, this is a peaceful scene of another America in another century...
"Skull" news paper pulp sculpture with polychrome colors and red foil eyes size 1.5" 2.5" 1.5" unsigned .The photographs don't do them justice. The sculpture is very well done from the sculpt to the color work by a fantastic outsider folk artist Michael Lee Ford. News paper pulp sculpture of a skull done while in 23 hour lock down at Telford New Boston prison in Texas. Michael Lee Ford was in prison, serving a 35-year sentence for a 1989 robbery...

His work is at the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Carnegie Institute; National Academy of Design; Harvard University and the Library of Congress.
A circa 1920's to 1940's old reprint of the much-loved classic Currier and Ives lithograph "American Winter Scenes", with a horse-drawn sleigh heading towards the snug home at right in which a party appears to be held. The piece measures 23 1/2" by 30 1/2" in what I believe is a birdseye maple frame. Condition is very good, vintage condition. The original 19th century lithograph is very expensive; this reasonable alternative will provide the same decorative punch.
Oil on canvasboard painting of a woman with basket on head in tropical town street, 12" by 16", 17" by 21" framed, signed at lower right Paul Katzman. The FRAME is most interesting, with a geometric cross-hatching pattern that would complement a Southwest themed painting.
Oil on canvas painting with great luminosity, the subject small craft pulled up on foreground beach, with a view to distant ships offshore a city, signed at lower left corner and dated 1876 by well listed Danish painter NORDAHL GROVE (1822-1885). The work measures 17 1/2" by 26" (23 1/2" by 32" framed). The luminous handling and colors reminds of works by northeastern American artists of the late 19th century...

Francoise Charles Cachoud, French, 1866-1943. This pensive and beautifully painted French Country House Scene in the moonlight is another wonderful example of Cachoud's genius with light and shadow and contrast. It is oil on canvas 23" by 28" in a period 3" frame for dimensions of 29" by 34".
A very well-painted mid 20th century copy of the famous 1864 HONORE DAUMIER (1808-1879) painting of two Moliere play characters, "Crespin et Scapin", (sometimes known as "Crespin et Silvestre"), that original now hanging in the Musee d'Orsay in Paris. This work, painted on the smooth side of a pressed wood panel, measures 22" by 31" (26" by 34 1/2" as framed). The current painting is very faithful to that original work...

Here is a prize for the collector of Californiana----an idealized view of a mission in the golden days of yore, painted around 1935 I would guess. There is a signature at lower right that appears as Y. Arnold or similar. The painting is on a coarse weave canvas, almost like burlap or jute, laid down on an old board, on the back of which is a color print of a landscape. Size is 30" by 24" including the simple narrow wood strip frame...

Both pieces come from the same New York estate.

Oil on canvas portrait of President Washington based on the painting done in 1804 by Gilbert Stuart. This work is highly finished example of the style, and in our option, the School of Gilbert Stuart. Measuring 35” x 30” in an ornate Stuart period frame. We believe done in the 1820s CONSIGNMENT
A Mediterranean landscape painting, oil on board, 13" by 19" (19 1/2" by 25 1/2" framed) signed at lower right "ELBAZ" and above that, the same name in Hebrew script. This could be a work by listed artist ANDRE ELBAZ (1934-) but I am unable to confirm that. The listed Elbaz painted works in Morocco and some have brought large sums at auction there. The art displays a certain poetry in the arrangement of the houses, figures and trees, similar to the way that Reuven Rubin arranged his Holy Land...
A portrait miniature of a young and handsome man unabashedly directly facing the viewer. He is dressed in the height of fashion, wearing a black jacket, light orange cravat (which nicely matches his hair), and a white vest. Presented in a gilt cast foliate case, the reverse of which features a glazed tightly woven field of plaited hair.
Because of the convex glass, the photos unfortunately show reflections, white streaks, dots, and shadows, none of which are in the miniature. The overall...

A most unusual painting on wood panel, 24" by 30", unframed, featuring some gritty, tough-looking downtown Los Angeles men in a claustrophobic, vertiginous streetscape of old hotel buildings. The Hotel Rosslyn and annex were built in 1914 and 1923, respectively, and were fashionable places to stay, in their day, at Fifth and Main in old downtown. The medium used is likely casein or other non-oil, water-based paint. The painting takes from older Social Realist painting and murals of the early ...
Portrait of Steiglitz by Georgia Engelhoshf, Framed silver print photo, 20 x 17". Taken in Lake George, 1940.
For the aficionado of equine art, this is a beautifully composed watercolor and ink drawing of polo horses and players, signed at lower right by listed Arizona woman artist ALICE LORD MARSHALL (1895-1993). The work measures 11 1/2" by 15 1/2" inside the mat and 18 1/2" by 23" as framed. I recently acquired this from her grandson, formerly of the Phoenix area, now living in Pacific Palisades, California.
