This 1856 self-portrait by Seymour Guy (1824-1910) is mounted in its original frame. The signature is on the left side if the chair. Several of this American Artist can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. There is some in-painting on the face and coat.

From the set of lithographs, Paris dans sa Splenour, published in 1861, this one is titled, “TOUR St. JAQUES – LA BOUCHERIE ET RUE DE RIVOLIE.” The printer and lithographer are shown in details of the lower left and right corners. The image without printing is 9 1/4 by 14 1/8 inches (23.5 x 36 cm), the page 12 ¾ by 18 ½ inches (32.5 x 47 cm).

Russell, it is almost certain, due to slight technique variances, that the portrait of the woman was done by Mrs. Moses B. Russell, nee Clarissa Peters. This portrait was purchased in Georgia from the West Family. The owner had been a partner in the Law Firm King and Spaulding. The portrait appears to be of a Lawyer or a Justice.
