Nicely carved mask with refined features which suggest a feminine mask. Ivory Coast/Liberia, Dan ethnic group, early 20th century. Height: 24.5 cm. The mask is mounted on a custom stand. Ols insect infestation (no danger), old cracks, otherwise very good condition. Provenance: old French collection.

This is the first woodblock print created by Toshi Yoshida. He was 14 years of age.

Vintage Japanese okimono of one of the 3 wise monkeys in their habitual "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” attitude - in this case Mizaru covering his eyes. Carved in ittobori (one cut) style typical for the Hida school. Very clever rendition of the animal, much more creative and challenging as a number of intersecting planes versus natural familiar rounded lines. Very clever use of ichii (yew wood), its texture nicely imitating fur of the animal, in excellent condition...

Vintage bronze vase with patterns of butterflies made by an artist named, Nobuharu. The piece contains an inscription dating to March of 1953 where students from Tojo Photo Studio gave the vase to their teacher in celebrating the 40th anniversary of their studio. Antique Japanese man's silk juban, an undergarment worn under a kimono. We can find true works of art hidden in this type of old kimono. The term "Juban" comes from the Portuguese word "gibao" (sleeveless garment). The design of hyotan sake (rice wine) gourds is out-lined with hand tie-dye. Interesting patterns inside the gourds. This is an old gown but the condition is like new except that the tie-dye has stretched out over the years. Circa, early 1900s...

This hand painted Chinese Famille Rose tea caddy is 5 ¼” high and 3 ½” wide from the widest part. It depicts a black mynah resting on a branch of peach blossoms.
