1960's Chinese green and white jadeite carving of lotus and bamboo on a custom wood stand. A frog is perched on one of the lotus leaves and a bamboo stalk in the background serves to hold calligraphy brushes or fresh flowers. In excellent condition, it measures 7.25" high, on stand 8.75" high, 5.5 across, and about 3.5" deep.

He sits in a royal ease position, sporting his usual jolly facial expression, and holds a string of prayer beads in his right band over his belly, with his cloth sack in his left hand, in which he is said to reside. He wears yellow and green robes with blue, green, and red floral patterns, lined in red. His head is very articulated with pierced nostril and ear holes and mouth...

Tattoo ink container of cylindrical shape decorated with a monkey in relief, in a rather aggressive posture, holding the container with its four paws. Wood, with a fine dark brown patina. The piece is nicely mounted on a custom plexi stand. Height (without stand): 6.5 cm. Old restoration on one of the limbs (almost invisible), otherwise very good condition.

Chinese landscape painting of a mountain pavilion nestled in among twisting pines, a river winds it's way through the rocks creating two waterfalls - one in the upper left of the composition and the other in the lower right below the pavilion, all done black ink on paper, signed Zhao Tsungwu, early to mid 20th century. Provenance: from the estate of the late actor James Coburn. Size of art only: 37 3/4" high x 19 1/4" wide.

A masterpiece by one of Japan's preeminent artists, Seiko Sawada b.1894-1988. This signed piece was executed out of keyaki wood in his younger days in the 1930's depicts Ebisu, one of the seven lucky gods, riding a fish and a wave spouting out of the fish's mouth. Daikoku, the god of abundance, is riding his treasure bag holding his hammer of magic. The Sawada Museum is in Atami, Shizuoka. Sawada was awarded the Order of Merit in the 1970's.

Surinamese Maroons (Marrons or Businenge, meaning black people of the forest) are the descendants of enslaved Africans that escaped from the plantations and settled in the inland of Suriname (Dutch Guiana) and French Guiana. This is an antique Chinese ink painting of young bamboo in fan form on silk done in shades of black ink with 3 seals in red. This is a lovely rendering, with subtle brush work as well as decisive strong definition.

1920s Japanese ceramic tokkuri - sake bottle - with conical body and narrow mouth. The piece was made at Shigaraki kilns - one of the six ancient kilns of Japan - and displays typical coarse body with large sand particles, freely applied gray glaze with some areas that fired brick red. Excellent piece in Japanese taste, beautiful spiral line on the bottom. Some compressed dust, overall in excellent condition. Height 5 3/8 inches.

Across the water and backed by tall trees, the windows of a traditional Japanese home are lit. Titled "Night Scene of Mabashi, near Tokyo," the print was published by Watanabe prior to 1936. The title and artist's red Shotei seal are at the upper left. Paper size: 9 7/8” x 7 1/8” (including small margins)...

Impressive Mashiko iron glazed jar with impressed design by Sakuma Totaro (Japan, Mashiko, 1900-1976). Circa 1950s. In excellent original condition. 21cm high, 19cm across. Sakuma Totaro was one of the most important potters in Mashiko in the 20th century, as well as Shoji Hamada's friend and "partner in grime" (Robert Yellin).

A large papier mache lacquered plaque or tray made for export or sale to foreigners during the early 20th Century. This raised relief design incorporating the "Satsuma cross" motif is very common on low grade tea and coffee sets made in vast quantities for export during the 1920s and 1930s. It is unusual to see this brocade style pattern depicted in this medium. Condition - good...
