Small Indian Jain bronze depicting the seated figure of Vishnu with Lakshmi seated on his left knee. Lakshmi, the inseparable energy of Vishnu, sits with her right arm around Vishnu's waist. Below him on the rectangular platform is the tiny figure of his vehicle Garuda, identifiable by his tiny but unmistakable wings. Two other smaller figures hold up each of Vishnu's knees.

A beautiful Japanese black lacquer over wood with applied mother of pearl charger featuring 2 sparrow-like birds surrounded by cherry blossoms. The branches have gold highlights and the cherry blossom buds have red lacquer accents. One small mop bud is missing, otherwise in very good condition. Measures 17 inches in diameter.

A wondreful Chinese wood panel with three goats, an auspicious symbol of peace, harmony and good fortune. The panel was painted with red lacquer and then gold gilt was applied. As a decorative piece it would look great over hung over a doorway or above a large painting. In very good condition, it measures just short of 24 inches long by 7 3/4" high.

A beautiful small bronze bust of a young Southeast Asian girl wearing a high headdress, a makuta crown, often used in the classical court dances in Thailand, Burma, Laos or Cambodia. The back of the patinated bronze head with the two initials "V.N." standing for Vietnam, work attributed to the Vietnamese artist Nguyen Thanh Le (1919-2003). Fixed on the original black painted wooden base...

Unlike many of the pieces in the genre of Kyo-ware, this tea bowl is decidedly demure in appearance. Milky, flowing glaze pools in places along a backdrop of ivory and coral pink sides, contrasting nicely with the rough, unrefined clay of the base. In the center of the kodai is a decorative swirl pattern reminiscent of the yin and yang.

The potter, Kanpu Kawanabe (1873 - 1947) was born into a family of weavers but went on to be trained in many of the arts related to tea ceremony...

The entire front of the cabinet is decorated in kyungbur technique (designs and pictures painted in raised lines of a gesso and resin mixture) on a deep red ground. Two large compartments are covered by 8 large panels decorated with phoenixes in medallions of scrolling vines and flowers. The middle four panels open to the compartments. Kushan Islamic turquoise blue glazed oil lamp with elongated spout, pad base, tall neck and flared rim. The lamp measures 5 ins. in length. The turquoise glaze has a black design detail and a wonderful iridescent surface. The top of the rim chipped, superb color and glaze, and overall a very fine example old restoration and reconstruction as is usual with pottery of this kind. Provenance purchased in Iran in 1968 please see image showing copy of original purchase invoice.

Rare semi antique supplementary warp silk embroidery on handspun indigo cotton, blanket from the diverse Tai ethnic group Vietnam/Laos. I collected this in Chiang Mai around 15 years ago and would date it around 50 to 90 years old. Nowadays you just can’t find this sort of textile anymore. Some minor embroidery losses but overall in very good condition. Dimensions: 80cm/31.5in x 137cm/53in.
