The silver setting of very good quality is a fine example of fine goldsmith's work, it is perhaps -be Chinese but more probably Annamese...

DESCRIPTION: A handsome scholar's calligraphy brush, crafted from a wood shaft that has been beautifully lacquered in a swirling, wave-like pattern of red and black lacquer. The lacquer shaft is connected to the natural bristle brush by a bulbous wood ferrule. One of the four treasures of the scholar’s studio, this striking scholar’s brush would have made an attractive companion to a fine brush pot. Unusual Miao embroidered central panel, of a wedding apron costume. There is a coiled dragon in the center with two phoenixes above- surrounded with longevity characters, anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figures. It has a tattered calendered silk black border silk weft embroidered all the threads are handspun. The orange dye has bled into the white field some, so please see enlargements. A fine Chinese C. Silver Coin. The Buddhist scriptures on the coin are Pranja Paramita. This coin was specially made for the temple to worship the Buddha. Good condition overall. Collector's item, rare!

During the Qing Dynasty, hair combs like this were commonly used. The structure is bone and the tines are of wood. A few tines have gone missing with age and use. The comb is about 5 inches x 2 inches.

A globular body was held by three foot in beautiful proportions. An earlier collection was published in " Early Chinese Miniature" by China Institute in America. Antique Chinese set of four hardwood nesting tables with central burl tops in a gorgeous deep red lacquer original finish. Provenance: S. I. Hayakawa, the renowned semanticist who defied striking student radicals at San Francisco State University in the late 1960s and subsequently was elected to the U.S. Senate. Size : 22" height, 22" width, 22" depth

This water jar, "mizugame," stands 60cm (23.5") high with a mouth diameter of 55cm (21.5".) The rich brown glaze is decorated front and back with freely poured ladle splashes of black slip. A band of 5 incised lines runs about 7cm below the rim of the jar. The decoration is similar to Tamba wares at first glance, but a look at the unglazed bottom reveals not the red clay of Tamba, but a yellowish-light brown clay from Seto or elsewhere...

Lovely pair of Japanese Geisha Isho Ningyo. The style of this gorgeous set is fashioned after the work of early Japanese woodblock prints artists, such as Utamaro. Chinese Bamboo top heavy Hardwood framed low square table, Ca, late 1800's to early 1900's, 16" high, 22" square, with open Bamboo top framed with heavy Hardwood square legs with stretcher under the top.
