A pair of early 19th century beaded deer hide moccasins. Seed beads, deer skin, clear beads, silk ribbon. The moccasins are probably from Niagara Falls area. c. 1830-40 Length 9" Provenance: Owned by Thomas Wistar (1798-1876) a Quaker, who was commissioned by President Grant to arrange treaties with Indian tribes. This is a hydrangea pattern and a high technique of yuzen dye, and shadow and the color of the leaf are expressed boldly. It is the gem which does not exist in other tsutsugaki. It is a painting of wonderful yuzen dye. Tsutsugaki is done by a considerably exact technology. It is a wonderful masterpiece of Edo at latter term. There is slightly a repair mark.It has several small holes.The material is hemp (superior grass cloth)and cotton. size:162cm x 140cm (63.7" x 55.1")

Nuo theater mask representing the smiling Tudigong, the god of the soil and of cereals in ancient Chinese mythology, wearing a formal cap. Wood, with traces of lacquer, fine dark patina. China, early 19th century, maybe older. Height: 11 1/4" (28,5 cm). The mask is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Old local restorations from top to bottom, otherwise good condition.

The view is surrounded by Chinese patterns with various auspicious objects often representing fortune or wealth. The neck of the vase contains a view of chrysanthemums and bamboo. Age 18th century. This is silk tsumugi yuzen kimono textile in the edo-bakumatsu(1800-1868) age. It is very graceful and is beautiful. There are a little stain and damage. However, it is overall good. size:140cm x 124cm (55.1" x 48.8")

A fascinating Japanese shrine bell known as, Waniguchi, or directly translated as Crocodile's mouth, which resembles the wide mouth of a crocodile. The bell is usually found in shinto shrines that enshrine deities that were imported to Japan or Shingon temples. The bell contains an inscription stating that the bell was originally donated by the ancestors of the donor in 1686 and a new bell was rededicated in 1839.
