Chinese Western Han Dynasty Incised & Burnished Pottery Cocoon Jar

This wonderfully-shaped pottery jar was made during the early part of the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 8), or possibly the preceding Qin Dynasty (221 - 206 BC). This type of jar is usually referred to as a "cocoon jar" due to the shape of its body. Its original function was that of a grain storage jar. The jar is fairly "heavily-potted" and has quite a wide foot with a neck and flared mouth...

A 'Nishapur' type of ware, probably made in the Samenid period, c. 10th. century AD.

Highly attractive and rare seen type of vessel with a lovely torquise glaze and two handles.

Size: 14 cm. tall and 13 cm. wide.

Condition: Choice and basically intact with a chip to the footring restored and some minor chips to the glaze of the rim and short hairlines.

This heavy wooden pillow was hand carved from a block of hard wood. A relic of the Qing dynasty during the 1800's, it would have been used more as a head rest, i.e. supporting the back of the neck so that the hair style remained undisturbed. A beautiful Chinese 10.5 inch high earthenware mudman of mudman holding a gourd and fly swat that has been lamped without any damage to the figurine. Including the base and harp the lamp measures 25 inches high. The base measures 7" x 7". Note: We have 2 of these lamps, see last 2 photos, and they are $600 for the pair. Mudman dates circa pre-1920.

18th century netsuke of seated Jurojin (one of the 7 Gods of Good Fortune, usually associated with longevity) leaning on one hand. Wonderful early carving of characteristic triangular section, smiling benevolent face, great fat earrings, beautifully etched textile patterns, some black and red highlights. Expert light staining, superb patina. Height 1 1/8 inches.

Chinese Nephrite Jade Toggle, boy holding branch tightly, 2 3/4" high, 1 3/8 wide, 1" deep, light Celadon color, nice old patina. The condition is good, no damage.

Antique Japanese small ceramic teapot in the form of lotus leaves. Buff color clay with light brown glaze and glossy speckles. Leaves sculpted with naturalistic details. The spout is a folded leaf and a small round leaf functions as the thumb rest. The underside of the teapot is sculpted to match.

An early Thai, Sukhothai period Celadon-glazed stoneware figure of a mother, shown chewing an ancient form of Narcotic drug known as Miang.

The figure dates to approximately 1400 A.D. and was produced in Thailand's Ancient Si Satchanalai Kilns. The depiction is one of a woman, shown seated with her left leg internally rotated and her right leg to the side. She has large protruding breasts and clutches a stylized child close to her body...

Fine Large Chinese Han Dynasty Glazed Granary
