And the other of Winter: birds including sparrows and kingfishers with snow-covered bamboo and red clusters of berries on a large nandia bush. Painted using mineral colors and gold leaf on paper. Signed Eigaku Kano (1790-1867).

Antique Japanese Nihon Matsu isho tansu (clothing chest) in two sections from the Nihonmatsu area of Fukushima Prefecture. Made all of kiri (paulownia) wood. Iron hardware has a deep red lacquer finish and includes hirute shaped drawer pulls and large square lock plates with shōchikubai symbols (three friends of winter: plum, pine and bamboo) and a butterfly key hole cover. Huge antique 16th century Turkish Ottoman period time of the Sultan Suleiman Magnificent, leather water flask (Matara) with its original wooden stopper. The bladder-shaped flask made of thick leather, stitched together. The top with three, protuberances one with narrow spout for drinking, one with cylindrical neck for filling and the third on the middle with a leather loop for carrying.

A superbly potted Qianlong Mark and Period ( 1736 - 1795 ) vase with an wonderful copper-red glaze. H : 18, 6 cm. Condition : It was possible to re-glue the broken vase very successfully. Although there is no re-paint to the vase the re-glued areas are quite discrete.

Antique Japanese 2 section isho tansu (clothing chest) from the Nihonmatsu area. Made with keyaki (elm) wood with dramatic grain and original deep reddish orange translucent lacquer finish. The chest is made up of four large drawers and a safe box in the lower right hand side which has two small drawers behind a locking safe door (with key). Lovely iron hardware includes warabite shaped drawer pulls, large lock plates with pine motif and elaborate cross bracing on the the safe door...

An antique Japanese Kasane Tansu (stacking chest on chest) made entirely of Kirinoki (Paulownia) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware including the Warabite handles and the lock plates featuring the family crest of three open fans (Sanogi). Each section has two large drawers for spacious storage of Kimono or clothes. Two sets of side handles, one for long distance transit and the other for room placement. Interlocking sectional pins which is a rare feature for the Kasane Tansu...

This is an authentic Neolithic Hongshan jade object, described in the literature as "hoof-shaped." Current scholarly opinion is that it was used to hold the individual's hair, based on where these objects have been found in excavated tombs. The piece measures 4-1/2" in height and is 2" in diameter. As with most published examples, it has two holes near the base which would have allowed the insertion of a "pin" to hold the hair in place...
