Late 19th Century

A fine embroidery depicting a group of chickens. Embroideries, known as shishu in Japanese, were done on various fabrics and clothing. It was only later during the late 19th century that embroideries were appreciated for their artistic quality and were often framed or mounted on scrolls. DESCRIPTION: A Japanese Sumida vase with oval neck rim covered in a rich, thick flambé glaze running midway down the vase. A high relief figure of a man balanced on a rocky ledge, holding an umbrella, is contrasted against the red, ribbed body of the vase. Excellent condition with no chips. A red Indonesian topeng mask possibly depciting a warrior or an old man. The mask contains sections where the beard and the eye brows may have been attached. The quilted lower portion of the vamp indicates that this pair of shoes are from northern China, and the shape of the heel dates them to before 1910. Clearly somewhat used, they are a wonderful artifact of a time and cultural practice from the past.

This is a Song dynasty small green glazed earthenware ewer. It is melon shped with 2 small ears resting on the shoulder. The base show a very light greyish clay colour.

The dimension of the ewer is: the height is 10.3cm and the width is 10.6cm.

Generall in good condition with minor abrasion. No restoration, repair chip, crack or glaze chipping.

It is in good condition.. A manufacturing crack (picture 6)at the base which show through the inside of the jarlet base as well. No damanage, restoration, repair or chip. Minor abrasion and manufacturing fault.

This lacquer serving tray from Burma (now called Myanmar) depicts has a central medallion with a mythical Burmese creature, a chinthei, surrounded with 12 individual vignettes depicting children and other creatures. The tray is 19 x 11 inches with a rim 3/4 inches high. The top surface is somewhat dulled from age and exposure.

DESCRIPTION: Nearly life-sized and in the traditional frontal pose, this painting on rice paper depicts a Chinese Qing official (mandarin) and his wife seated on elaborately carved chairs in semiformal gowns.
