A Chinese carved cinnabar lacquer vase (converted into a lamp) decorated with four shaped panels of scholars on a mountainous landscape, the background with scrolling floral borders and motifs. An archaic decorative Bi was rarely carved in a material of rock crystal.
Other than the commonly-seen material-jadestone, crystal was used to be esteemed as the precious gem and being treasured among the noble people.
This crystal Bi was carved on both sides with the characteristic grains-motif.
