This antique Chinese box would have been used during the Qing dynasty, possibly by a scholar or shop keeper. The bottom of this box has covered compartments for seals, chops,calligraphy brush, ink sticks and a built in inkstone. There is an abacus built into the lid.
The original hinge pin was lost and has been replaced. The box was made with large dovetail joints and from a hard wood of unknown origins. The outside is dirty and I have not cleaned it...
This very well carved ivory statue of a scholar is a late 19th century product. It is 11" high (with hardwood carved base, it is 13" high), 3 1/2" wide and 2 1/2" thick. The image is the well-known Song Dynasty (960AD~1270AD) hermit scholar Lin Pu (林 逋). Li Pu (967AD~1028AD) was born in Hang Zhou City, Zhe Jiang. When he was young he traveled a lot. A spectacular 19th century large Famille Rose pink-ground flared rim porcelain beaker vase, finely enameled with a pair of phoenix resting on cherry blossom limbs, surrounded by scattered peony blossoms. Orange peel glaze. Interior and base glazed turquoise. Measures 15" tall. Excellent condition.

Middle 19th century Chinese white jade rectangular lock on a carved wood stand with incised decoration on both sides. One side has four Chinese characters which read ¡°prosperity for entire family¡±; the other side is a peony design in the center with a garden scene around it. The jade is 3 ½ inches wide, 2 ¾ inches high (5 inches tall with stand) and ¼ inches thick. There is a chip on the corner of the stand. It is in excellent condition.

Carved from a jade-like hardstone (possibly serpentine). Rectangular form with a slightly raised grinding surface bordered by a narrow, raised perimeter with a carved depression for water at the top end. Very good condition with no cracks. There is some wear to the grinding surface and to the base. Old patina with old light soiling.

Gently flaring bowl with lid, both very well-painted with fruiting vines, bamboo and butterflies probably after a pattern from the Qianlong period. The enamel colors are clear and delicate in the case of the aqua blue and pale green; the fruits are subtly shaded with red and green over white enamel. The bowl is raised on an unglazed footring revealing the white porcelain paste. Four character Guangxu marks are on the lid and the base of the bowl in red enamel...
