The view is showing a waterfall with different flora and fauna.The work has the distinct characteristics of the Kano school which was the dominant school of painting in Japan. Very rare and exceptional Late Edo/Early Meiji Period C.1880 bronze buddhist temple lantern. Originally held a small dish for an oil lamp. Thick heavy bronze that has oxidized with time to produce a lovely blue/green patina. On tripod legs with fantastic vine motif on the main body panels. Hinges on door still work. Lost wax cast. This very well made bone carving of the legendary Chinese figure Xiang Yu 項 羽 (232 BC~202BC) is a late 19th century product. A Hasami-yaki bowl of scalloped form bowl decorated with konnyaku stamped decoration of Chrysanthemum and leaves, and gobenka to the centre with Tako Karakusa decoration to the rim and a Karakusa arabesque to the reverse and a stylised Fuku mark to the base. The bowl is a good and relatively early example of the style of ware made at Nagasaki under the Owara clan for the mass market. The dish dates to the mid Edo era and the mid 18th century...

An Arita plate of scalloped form painted in kakiwake style with a Chinese Pheasant and rock motif surrounded by pomegranates in the centre, and trailing foliage to the rim, including Peonies and Plum flowers. The dish dates to the late 18th century circa 1780-1800. The rim decorated with a brown glaze. The reverse undecorated and the interior of the footring displaying faux chattering. The plate measures 17.5cm in diameter and stands 2.8cm high...

Ink on silk painting of Kanu Tannyu's "Portrait of Shoki". Riding a shi-shi lion Shoki was know as the Demon Slayer. Shoki was the spirit of the physician Shôki who was, according to Japanese folklore, able to scare away demons and ward off evil spirits. Signed "Hoin", this is an extremely well rendered painting exhibiting fine detailing that was achieved by using a single hair. In excellent condition, the painting measures 16" long by 8.5" high...
